Yoshiko Nako

Yoshiko (Shimabukuro) Nako, 100, of Hilo died Oct. 26, 2017. Born on Sept. 28, 1917, in Hawaii, she was a housewife.

Private services held.

She is survived by Daughters Kate Yoshimura; Shyran (Carl) Nakayama; one brother-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.

James Arakawa

James Toshio Arakawa, 76, of Paauilo died Nov. 4, 2017, at the Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Paauilo, he was a retired health inspector for the state Department of Health, member of the former Paauilo-Kalopa Kumiai and a U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

He is survived by brothers, George (Ella) Arakawa of Paauilo, Paul Arakawa of Paauilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Seijitsu Yogi

Seijitsu “Lefty” Yogi, 92, of Hilo died Oct. 16, 2017, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired postal clerk at the Hilo Main Post Office, member of Hilo Hongwanji Mission, Hui Okinawa, Wreckers Golf Club and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers or koden.

He is survived by wife, Setsuko Yogi of Hilo; daughter, Faye (Glen) Azumi of Waipahu; brothers, Seigi (Sumiko) Yogi of Hilo, Seitei Yogi of Kailua, Oahu, Hiromu (Alice) Yogi of Honolulu; sisters, Tsuru Okuhama of Okinawa, Japan, Tsuruko Taira of Hilo, Kimie (Kenneth) Teruya of Wailuku; one sister-in-law; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Shepherd Lainaholo

Shepherd Kauohilo Lainaholo, 87, of Hilo, died Oct. 19, 2017, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 5, 1930, in Hilo, he was a retired laborer for the Hawaii Local Labor Union and a member of Kuhio Chapel in Keaukaha.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 24 at Haili Congregational Church. Wake service begins at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Nov. 25 at the church for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Ellen Lainaholo of Hilo; daughters, Zelda (Kendall) Kelson of Hilo, Junedale Lainaholo of California, Leonetta Lainaholo of California and Joni Bonilla of Hilo; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Leong of Oahu; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

Gerald Paiva

Gerald Russell Paiva, 69, of Hilo, died Nov. 9, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired truck driver and security guard, and member of Living Torah Hawaii Fellowship.

Friends may call 2-3 p.m. Nov. 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 3 p.m. funeral service. Friends may also call at noon Nov. 27 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside committal service. Casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, LeAnn Takayama-Paiva of Hilo; daughter, Brittni Paiva of Hilo; son, Joshua (Melody) Paiva of Hilo; brothers, Michael (Charlotte) Paiva of Oahu and Peter (Darleen) Paiva of Papaikou; sisters, Alice Ann Nathaniel of Oahu, Victoria DeLuz of Hilo, Theresa Matthews of Hilo, Roxanne Araki of Mountain View and Susan (Tony) Pavao of Oahu; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace Dehmer

Grace “Gracie” Kau’ilani Dehmer, 57, of Papaikou, died Nov. 6, 2017, at her residence. Born on Oahu, she was the proprietress of D&G Lawns, worked for Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and was a homemaker.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

She is survived by companion, Dereck Figueroa of Papaikou; daughter, Raenelle (Blane DeRego) Dehmer of Honokaa; father, Robert Dehmer of Kona; brothers, Kimo (Debrah) Dehmer of Kona, Lynn (Sunee) Dehmer of Honokaa, Bobby Dehmer of Ocean View, Eric (Patti) Dehmer of Hilo; sister, Gail (Tarael Thorpe) Dehmer of Mountain View; two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
