Tee up for Hospice of Kona golf tourney

Avid golfers from around the country are flying in for Hospice of Kona’s Memorial Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for Nakamaru Hale, Hospice of Kona’s residential hospice home.

Sponsored by Anderson Wealth Planning, the tournament will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4 at the Hokuli‘a Golf Club in Kealakekua.

Participants will enjoy a complimentary tournament shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, an awards banquet, prizes and a silent auction.

Golfers are also eligible to compete for one of eight spots in the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shootout. No pros or teaching pros.

The golf tournament will feature four-person teams that must include at least one female golfer to be eligible for prizes.

Entry fee is $300 per player or $1,200 per team. Players will receive 80 percent of their handicaps. Format is select drive, 2 net best balls of 4.

Kona Country Club 50th anniversary tournament

The Kona Country Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a golf tournament on Nov. 26. Money will go to support the Kona CC Jr. golf program.

Entry fee is $98 for visitors and $78 for residents with Hawaii state ID. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and a shot gun start will follow at 8 a.m.

There will be gross and net winners in the two-person scramble format (40-percent of team handicap). There will also be a closest to the pin challenge and mulligans are available to purchase.

BISA sports clincs

Youth basketball: The Big Island Sports Academy will host a youth basketball clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Panaewa Park Gymnasium in Hilo on Dec. 9 for girls and boys ages 4-6. Registration is currently going on and applications can be obtained at all elementary schools, County of Hawaii Parks and Recreation Centers, or by contacting Livsey at mrjohnlivsey@gmail.com or 365-4831. Cost is $25 per person. There will also be on-site registration at 8:30 a.m.

Holiday baseball/softball: The BISA will host a baseball/softball clinic under the direction of former MLB all-star Bill Madlock Dec. 21-23 at Old Airport Park. Fee is $125 for boys and girls ages 10-18. For more information contact Bill Trumbo at billtrumbo@gmail.com

Jingle Bell Beach Run

Hawaii Sport Events presents the 13th annual Jingle Bell Beach Run on Sunday, Dec. 17 at Coconut Grove Marketplace.

Start time for the Christmas themed event is 7:30 a.m. and will feature a 5K and Santa’s Keiki Dash.

This year’s charity will benefit the Kiwanis Club, a non-profit organization dedicated toward changing the lives of children in need through their involvement with youth programs and meaningful community activities on the Big Island.

Awards will be given to the top three in the following categories: overall, five-year age groups, and best Christmas costumes.

Entry fee for the 5K is $30 until Nov. 30 and $35 until Dec. 15. There will be no registration for the 5K on race day. Santa’s Keiki Dash is free to children ages six and under.

KCAA T-Ball/Pitchball registration

The Kohala Community Athletic Association is currently accepting free registration for T-Ball/pitchball and boys basketball through Dec. 18. Registration can be done online at KCAA.online.

T-Ball/pitchball practice for girls and boys ages 5-8 begins in early January and games start mid-January and run through the end of February at Kamehameha Park.

Basketball practice for boys ages 9-11 begins in early January and games begin in mid-January and run through early March at Hisaoka Gym.

Hawaii-Hilo baseball clinic

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will host its annual Waiakea ‘Uka Vulcan Baseball Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9-11:30 a.m. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The clinic is open to children ages 7-13.

Players needed for Palapala Kupuna softball team

The Palapala Kupuna is looking for men and woman 55 and older interested in playing in the Hawaii County Kupuna Softball League starting in late January.
