Carmen Alfiler

Carmen C.L. Alfiler, 68, of Ahualoa, died Nov. 23, 2017, at her residence. Born April 28, 1949, in Haina, she was a retired Honokaa Elementary School teacher and a member of the Honokaa United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Honokaa United Methodist Church for a 10 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Harold Alfiler of Ahualoa; daughters, Alison (Brandon) Robles Honokaa and Ahulani (Roy Mattos, Jr.) Alfiler of Ahualoa; brother, Ralph (Linda) Cordoban of Oahu; six grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Raymond Mata, Sr.

Raymond “Tommy” Thomas Mata, Sr., 75, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 22, 2017, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born April 5, 1942, in Hilo, he was a retired maintenance worker for Jameson’s by the Sea and a maintenance worker for the former Kona Surf Resort.

A Celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at Honokohau Boat Harbor. Service at 11 a.m. Luncheon and scattering of ashes to follow. Loose flowers are welcome. For information call Rayanne at 756-6791.

He is survived by daughters, Lisa Alapai of Kauai, Rayanne Mata, Raynae Mata, Raylynne (Titus) Akao, Raynell Mata, Rayemarie (Francis) Kekona all of Kona, April Mata of South Kona; sons, Raymond Mata, Jr. of Kailua-Kona, Zachary Mata, Joshua Mata of South Kona; sister, Gloria Dela Cruz of Honolulu, Barbara Camacho of Kailua-Kona; brother, Lawrence Mata of Kauai; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mary Kruse

Mary Patricia Kruse, 65, of Waimea, died Nov. 23, 2017, at her residence. Born Sept. 3, 1952, in Portland, Ore., she was a retired medical office manager and patient care coordinator.

Private service to be held at a later date.

She is survived by companion, Michael Pierce of Waimea; father, Robert Kruse; daughters, Helen Kruse both of San Diego; Jean (David) Olmos of Honolulu, Robin (Choya) Aweau of North Kohala; brother, Dan (Grace) Kruse of Anchorage, Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Whittington

Sylvia Haaheo Choo Whittington, 85, of Hilo died Nov. 11, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. She was born in Honolulu and was a homemaker.

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire, no flowers.
