Adeline Cabreira, 97, of Hilo died Nov. 18, 2017, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church and various church organizations.

Friends may call 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 9:30-11 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church for an 11 a.m. funeral service. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

She is survived by son, Norman (Carolyn) Cabreira of Monroe, Wash.; daughters, Charlotte (Daniel) Taka of Hilo, Sandra “Sandy” Cabreira Tabiolo of Hilo, Marsha (Ernest) Valenzuela of Kamuela; hanai daughter, Francisca “Chicka” Asuncion of Hilo; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Angeline Hanoa

Angeline “Angie” Haleloke Hanoa, 81, of Hilo, died Nov. 18, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born on May 11, 1936, in Pahala, she was a retired assistant director of Environmental Services for Kuakini Medical Center and a former vice president for the private sector of the U.P.W. and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward.

Private services were held.

She is survived by children, Russell Kela of Michigan, Adren (Rae) Kela of Kailua, Oahu, Kaimi Harnsberger of Orange County, Calif., Cheryl Kiyotsuka of Hilo and Moana (Red) Greer of Marvel, Colorado; hanai children, Catherine and Rayner Galdones of Pepeekeo; brother, John (Barbara) Hanoa of Aina Haina, Oahu; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Toshio Honma

Mr. Toshio Honma, 93, of Hilo, died Oct. 31, 2017, in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born Feb. 3, 1924, in Opihikao, he was retired from Yamada and Sons, Inc. as a construction superintendent.

Private services held. No flowers. No koden.

He is survived by sons, Wallace (Ritsue) Honma of Honolulu and David (Victoria) Honma of Hilo; daughter, Linda (Vance) Lacaran of Mililani; sisters, Myra (Larry) Kadooka of Hilo and April (James) Apana, Jr. of Kahului; six grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

David Fukuda

David Shuichi Fukuda, 82, of Indianapolis and Hilo died Oct. 16, 2017, in Indiana. Born May 9, 1935, in Hilo, he was a bacteriologist for Eli Lilly and Company.

He is survived by two sisters, Umeno (Yoshiichi) Ushio of Hilo and Thelma (Kenneth) Watanabe of Aiea; one brother-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Shizuyo Uwono

Shizuyo Uwono, 100, of Hilo, died Oct. 21, 2017, at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association and Dana.

Valerie Ishiyama

Valerie Usui Ishiyama, 57, of Hilo, died Dec. 1, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, she was the owner of ilovehawaiianfoodrecipe.com and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Dec. 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Tyson (Kehau) Usui of Hilo, Robby Ishiyama of Hilo; mother, Mildred Kabalis of Hilo; sister, Joslyn Kabalis of Kealakekua; brothers, Sodi (Carla) Kabalis of Hilo, Rudy (Ruth) Valentino of Hilo, Derek (Petty) Valentino of Hilo; one granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carolyn Koneck

Dr. Carolyn Marie Koneck died Nov. 8, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Originally from Chicago, Dr. Koneck was a resident of Kailua-Kona the past 40 years, a practicing psychologist the past decade and previously served as case manager for Kona’s homeless and mental health population. She also served with St. Michael’s Catholic Church as a youth group leader, choir member and Eucharistic minister.

Dr. Koneck is survived by daughter, Mikaela Marlow, Ph.D.; and sons, Gabriel Marlow, Keefe Ford, as well as extended family.

Ralph Moncrief

Ralph Davis Moncrief, 71, of Nanawale, died Nov. 20, 2017, at his residence. Born on March 29, 1946, in Detroit, he was a Natural Foods store owner, merchandiser, smoothie maker as well as a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Army.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

He is survived by partner, Diane Reeves of Nanawale; son, Davis Moncrief of California; daughter, Kachina Moncrief of California; sister, Delores Davis of the mainland; brother, Richard Moncrief of the mainland; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Betty Friend

Betty Claire Friend, 92, died Nov. 8, 2017, in Hilo. Born March 25, 1925, in Ohio, she was a member of the VFW post 3830, dancer, musician, homemaker.

Keith Hopkins

Keith Edward Hopkins, 64, of Hilo, died Dec. 4, 2017, at his residence. Born Dec. 9, 1953, in San Diego, he was a retired race horse trainer in Louisiana and California and an awa farmer in Pahoa.

Schayle Hanato-Wells

Mr. Schayle Kigen Napua Hanato-Wells, 29, of Honalo, died Nov. 8, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Nov. 22, 1987, in Honolulu, he was disabled, but was able to work as a laborer at 4 Napua’s Auto Upholstery, farmer at Y.M. Hanato’s farm (Kigen’s Farm), McDonald’s, fiberglass installer, and a laborer at Mother Earth Father Time Tree Trimming Company. He was a participant of Special Olympics and volunteered for the elderly, and the physically and mentally handicapped.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo for an 11 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire. He is survived by his mother, Yvonne Mikie Hanato-Wells of Honalo; brothers, C. Renkio (Deja) Hanato-Wells, and R. Kitao (Kuulei) Hanato-Wells, all of Honalo; sister, Kyra (Eric) Wells-Sweatt of Washington; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rosemary O’Malley

Rosemary O’Malley, 86, of Kalaoa, died Nov. 3, 2017, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born May 22, 1931, in Los Angeles, she was a retired child care provider.
