With joyful hearts and excitement, seventh and eighth-grade Kohala Middle schoolers prepared gift bags for the houseless last Tuesday to assist The Big Island Giving Tree as their community service project. Bags included donated soap, razors and shaving cream, flushable wipes, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion and sunscreen.

A total of 136 bags were created and will be distributed to individuals and families in need.

Organized by Kohala Middle School AVID teacher Jenny Stevens, this week the students will create food bags and deliver them to kupuna in the Ainakea Elderly Housing Project in conjunction with the after-school program.
