Kiwanis’ pockets jingling all the more

The Kiwanis Club of Kailua-Kona thanked the Jingle Bell Beach Run Organization for designating it the beneficiary of the 2017 Jingle Bell Beach Run.

Each year at the end of the event, the Jingle Bell Beach Run acknowledges a deserving organization or individual that has gone above and beyond to help the Big Island Community.

The Kiwanis club is a 501(c)(4) locally based Hawaii nonprofit organization that is part of the larger Kiwanis International global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

Here in Kona, the club is involved with many youth programs and meaningful community activities that make a difference. Some of our projects include providing basic supplies and toys for children in the hospital, helping with homeless children of the Ulu Wini transitional housing complex and working with PATH Hawaii’s bike safety program for children at Kealakehe Elementary School.

KHS taking part in science bowl

A team from Kealakehe High School is participating in an upcoming competition to determine the team to represent Hawaii in the high school National Finals of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s National Science Bowl.

This year marks the 28th bowl, which the DOE Office of Science launched to interest today’s youth in pursuing careers in science and math.

The winning team members from the regional competition will receive all-expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C., to compete in DOE’s National Science Bowl, April 26-30.

The winner of the national competition will win prizes for the team members and their schools.
