John Rodrigues Sr.
John Rodrigues Sr., 81, of Hilo and Kawaihae, died Jan. 15, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 18, 1936, in Hilo, he was a retired sales and leasing consultant for Big Island Honda Hilo, U.S. Army veteran, former district manager for Avis Car Rental in Hilo and Kona, past-president of the Waiakea Lions Club and St. Joseph School Parent-Teachers Group (PTG), former athletic director of St. Joseph School, member of the Association of Foresters — Court Mauna Kea #8854, Hilo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Alumni and Friends of St. Joseph School and a board member of Hilo Airport Transportation Department.
Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Jan. 25 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. funeral service. Graveside committal service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Casual attire.
He is survived by wife, Lynette Rodrigues of Hilo; son, John (Kim) Rodrigues Jr. of Hilo; daughter, Johnalyn (Alton) Nosaka of Hilo; brother, Lawrence Rodrigues Jr. of Pearl City, Oahu, Samson (Karen) Rodrigues of Kaneohe, Oahu, Edmund Rodrigues of Hilo and Glenn Rodrigues of Honolulu; sister, Cyrilla Makalena of Waimanalo, Oahu; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and an aunt.

Juana Bruno
Juana Miguel Bruno, 85, of Redwood City, Calif., and formerly of Hawi, died Jan. 11, 2018, at Stanford Hospital in California. Born Oct. 10, 1932, in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a housekeeper at the former Royal Waikoloan and King Kamehameha hotels, a macadamia nut picker, a cleaner at the Kohala Laundromat, and member of the Kohala Kumiai, Filipino Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. on Jan. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi for an 11 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire, flowers are welcome.
She is survived by husband, Lorenzo Bruno of Redwood City, Calif.; sons, Domy (Tessie) Bruno of Lakeland, and Ben (Elma) Bruno of Kapaau; daughters, Corazon (Roxy) Tomas of Halaula, Norma (Al) Cabusas of Redwood City, Calif., Lydia (Hamlet) Hartounian of Ontario, Calif., Merlyn (John) Botelho and Zenaida (John) Penner of Hawi; hanai sister, Warlita Borja of Hawi; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four hanai great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judy Capers
Judy Ann Capers, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 8, 2018. Born Feb. 21, 1950, in Fort Benning, Ga., she worked in retail sales.

She is survived by sisters, Lenore Hunter of Kailua-Kona and Jo-Ann Capers of Austin, Texas; one nephew and three nieces.

Vanita Kaleo
Vanita “Nene” Leialoha Kaleo, 71, of Hilo, died Dec. 18, 2017, at home. Born in Hilo, she was a visitation specialist with Parents Inc., a member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou, Malama Ka Pili Pa’a, co-founder of the Cancer Support Group, member and former vice president of the Panaewa Community Association and a member of the Guava Sisters and the Hilo Ohana Ladies Softball team.

Esther Carino Duldulao, 89, of Pahoa, died Jan. 2, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Care Center in Hilo. Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte Philippines, she worked for Kuwahara Anthuriums Farm in Pahoa and was a member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Gregory A. Ikeda, 62, of Hilo, died Jan. 17, 2018, at his home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii County police office and member of New Hope Church.

Andres Abad Dela Cruz, 79, of Naalehu, died Dec. 31, 2017, at his residence. Born on Nov. 30, 1938, in Vigan, Philippines; he was a retired laborer for the Ka’u Sugar Co. and MacFarms of Hawaii and member of the Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Friends may call for an all night vigil at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at the family residence, 94-1504 Puka St. in Naalehu. Blake-James “Kana Boy” Kamakanamekealoha Yuen Hoy Freitas, 31, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 11, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 7, 1986, in Kailua, Oahu, he was a hose technician for D&M Hydraulics, a former delivery driver for O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Church.

Ethan Lanakila Spencer, 44 of Waimea, died Jan. 9, 2018. Born March 24, 1973, in Honolulu, he was a high school teacher at Hawaii Preparatory Academy and a minister of the Church of the Resurrection.

Hosho Totoki
Rev. Hosho Totoki, 87, of Captain Cook, died Nov. 10, 2017, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, she founded the Kona Seiganji Shingon Mission in Captain Cook.
Private services were held. No flowers or koden is requested.
She is survived by many close friends.
