John Rodrigues Sr.

John Rodrigues Sr., 81, of Hilo and Kawaihae, died Jan. 15, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 18, 1936, in Hilo, he was a retired sales and leasing consultant for Big Island Honda Hilo, U.S. Army veteran, former district manager for Avis Car Rental in Hilo and Kona, past-president of the Waiakea Lions Club and St. Joseph School Parent-Teachers Group (PTG), former athletic director of St. Joseph School, member of the Association of Foresters — Court Mauna Kea #8854, Hilo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Alumni and Friends of St. Joseph School and a board member of Hilo Airport Transportation Department.

Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Jan. 25 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. funeral service. Graveside committal service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Lynette Rodrigues of Hilo; son, John (Kim) Rodrigues Jr. of Hilo; daughter, Johnalyn (Alton) Nosaka of Hilo; brother, Lawrence Rodrigues Jr. of Pearl City, Oahu, Samson (Karen) Rodrigues of Kaneohe, Oahu, Edmund Rodrigues of Hilo and Glenn Rodrigues of Honolulu; sister, Cyrilla Makalena of Waimanalo, Oahu; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and an aunt.

Juana Bruno

Juana Miguel Bruno, 85, of Redwood City, Calif., and formerly of Hawi, died Jan. 11, 2018, at Stanford Hospital in California. Born Oct. 10, 1932, in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a housekeeper at the former Royal Waikoloan and King Kamehameha hotels, a macadamia nut picker, a cleaner at the Kohala Laundromat, and member of the Kohala Kumiai, Filipino Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. on Jan. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi for an 11 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire, flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Lorenzo Bruno of Redwood City, Calif.; sons, Domy (Tessie) Bruno of Lakeland, and Ben (Elma) Bruno of Kapaau; daughters, Corazon (Roxy) Tomas of Halaula, Norma (Al) Cabusas of Redwood City, Calif., Lydia (Hamlet) Hartounian of Ontario, Calif., Merlyn (John) Botelho and Zenaida (John) Penner of Hawi; hanai sister, Warlita Borja of Hawi; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four hanai great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judy Capers

Judy Ann Capers, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 8, 2018. Born Feb. 21, 1950, in Fort Benning, Ga., she worked in retail sales.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by sisters, Lenore Hunter of Kailua-Kona and Jo-Ann Capers of Austin, Texas; one nephew and three nieces.

Vanita Kaleo

Vanita “Nene” Leialoha Kaleo, 71, of Hilo, died Dec. 18, 2017, at home. Born in Hilo, she was a visitation specialist with Parents Inc., a member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou, Malama Ka Pili Pa’a, co-founder of the Cancer Support Group, member and former vice president of the Panaewa Community Association and a member of the Guava Sisters and the Hilo Ohana Ladies Softball team.

Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Jan. 27 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Casual attire, lei welcome.

She is survived by husband, Charles Kaleo III of Hilo; sons, Maxie (Bobbi Moskal) Claveria of Las Vegas, and Charles (Maile) Kaleo IV of Hilo; daughters, Sancivee Ahulau-Kaleo and Stormiwin (David Tanaka) Kaleo, both of Hilo; hanai mother, Ethel Mukai Yoshimasu of Hilo; hanai daughters, Sharon (Jovany) Daog Pacheco and Trisha Puou, both of Kona; brother, Francis (Susan) Claveria of Oahu; sisters, Harriet Daog and Sandi Claveria, both of Hilo; hanai sisters, Robynn (Greer) Riedel and Kahela Makuakane, all of Hilo; one goddaughter; one godson; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Esther Duldulao

Esther Carino Duldulao, 89, of Pahoa, died Jan. 2, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Care Center in Hilo. Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte Philippines, she worked for Kuwahara Anthuriums Farm in Pahoa and was a member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Jan. 27 at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire; burial at Pahoa Catholic Church.

She is survived by daughters, Marieta (James O’Keefe) Duldulao Carino of Hilo, Elvira Duldulao (Francis) Bumanglag of Pahoa, Terry Duldulao (Arthur) Umiat of Lahaina, Maui, Leonarda Duldulao (Edison) Pajarillo of Riverside, Calif., and Aida Duldulao Padamada, Keaau; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gregory Ikeda

Gregory A. Ikeda, 62, of Hilo, died Jan. 17, 2018, at his home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii County police office and member of New Hope Church.

He is survived by wife Cheryle Ikeda of Hilo; sons, Jamie (Patricia) Ikeda of Las Vegas, and Benjamin Ikeda and John (Christi) Ikeda, all of Hilo; daughters, Janice Ikeda and Mary Ann (Jason) Rabang, all of Hilo; sisters, Toni (Greg) Wilhelm and Roxanne Ikeda, all of Hilo, and Theresa (Robert) Botelho of Maui; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Andres Abad Dela Cruz

Andres Abad Dela Cruz, 79, of Naalehu, died Dec. 31, 2017, at his residence. Born on Nov. 30, 1938, in Vigan, Philippines; he was a retired laborer for the Ka’u Sugar Co. and MacFarms of Hawaii and member of the Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call for an all night vigil at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at the family residence, 94-1504 Puka St. in Naalehu. Friends may call again from 8-10 a.m. Jan. 27 at the Naalehu Sacred Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcome. Burial will be at Naalehu Community Cemetery.

He is survived by wife, Carlina Savellano Jara Dela Cruz of Naalehu; sons, Henry (Meceline) Dela Cruz of Waimea, and Erwin (Jill Tung-Loong) Dela Cruz of Hilo; daughters, Connie (Clayton) Tayamen of Mountain View, Jingle Dela Cruz of Naalehu and Lea-Arnie (Roberto) Segobia of Keaau; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, six sisters from Philippines; and two sisters from California.

Blake-James Freitas

Blake-James “Kana Boy” Kamakanamekealoha Yuen Hoy Freitas, 31, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 11, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 7, 1986, in Kailua, Oahu, he was a hose technician for D&M Hydraulics, a former delivery driver for O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Feb. 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo. A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. and a luncheon will follow. Friends may also call 10 a.m. Feb. 3 at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church in Kona for an 11 a.m. service. A luncheon will follow. For information, call 557-2596.

He is survived by companion, Casey Agdeppa; daughter, Logan Freitas both of Kailua-Kona; parents, Michele (Kalani) Chinen of Hilo, Wade (Kuulei) Freitas of Colorado; grandparents, Edward (Donna) Freitas of Las Vegas, Miguel (Frances) Josue of Hilo, Cindy (Glenn) Alatan of Laupahoehoe, Randy Chinen of Keaau; sisters, Kharzlin Freitas of Kailua-Kona, Khalla Chinen; brothers, Justyce-Jordan Josue-Toci, Raiven Chinen all of Hilo; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ethan Spencer

Ethan Lanakila Spencer, 44 of Waimea, died Jan. 9, 2018. Born March 24, 1973, in Honolulu, he was a high school teacher at Hawaii Preparatory Academy and a minister of the Church of the Resurrection.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 10 at the Luta’s residence, 64-5004 Mana Road in Waimea for an 11 a.m. service with lunch to follow.

He is survived by mother, Cynthia (Rodrigues) Spencer, brother, Allyn (Michiko) Spencer of Waimea; sisters, Kalei (Dell) DelaPena of Waimea; Joy (Charles) Luta of Waimea; 13 nephews and nieces.

Hosho Totoki

Rev. Hosho Totoki, 87, of Captain Cook, died Nov. 10, 2017, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, she founded the Kona Seiganji Shingon Mission in Captain Cook.

Private services were held. No flowers or koden is requested.

She is survived by many close friends.
