Scholarships available for high school senior girls
The American Association of University Women, (AAUW) Kona Branch, will award two or more scholarships of $2,000 each this spring to female high school seniors with financial need in West Hawaii who will be attending a two- or four-year college or university.
The criteria for choosing scholarship recipients are academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities, community organizations and/or employment experience, educational and career goals and financial need.
Applications must be postmarked by April 2 and are available from high school counselors or at kona-hi.aauw.net. Home-schooled seniors are welcome to apply. These scholarships are unique in that the funds may be used for anything that enables the student to achieve her academic goals.

Beach named to Harding University dean’s list
Hadley Beach, a sophomore cognitive neuroscience major from Kailua-Kona, is among more than 1,400 Harding University students included on the dean’s list for grades achieved during the fall 2017 semester.
The dean’s list is published each semester by Dr. Marty Spears, university provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.
Harding University is a private Christian university located in Searcy, Arkansas.
Subaru donates $5K to humane society
Subaru Hawaii presented a $5,000 donation to Hawaii Island Humane Society as part of its annual Share the Love campaign. For every new Subaru vehicle purchased in Hawaii between Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, 2017, Subaru Hawaii donated $250 divided among six nonprofits, up to $30,000.
Maui Humane Society, Lanakila Meals on Wheels, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, the Hawaiian Humane Society, and the Kauai Humane Society also received donations of $5,000 each.
