Kona Stories hosts Words and Wine
Carol Kaemmerer, Alexander Rosenstein and Leslie Karst will be featured during Kona Stories Book Store’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Keauhou Shopping Center.
Kaem-merer is the author of “LinkedIn for the Savvy Executive,” which shows readers how to use LinkedIn wisely to increase visibility and influence, engage with ideal audiences and cultivate reputation as a thought leader. Kaemmerer, who lives in Minneapolis, has been an annual visitor to Kona for the last six years.
Rosenstein is the author of “Doubled-Edge Sword,” a political thriller set in the last decade where disillusioned KGB agent Oleg Medvedev uses his skills to solve the mysteries of a high-profile murder and foils a plot to stop democratic reform.
Karst is behind the Sally Solari Mysteries (“Dying for a Taste,” “A Measure of Murder,” and “Death al Fresco”), a culinary series set in Santa Cruz, Calf. In her latest book, “Death al Fresco,” Solari’s life is already crazy busy, helping run her family’s two restaurants. But when the body of an old Italian fisherman is discovered washed up on the beach and Sally’s father is accused of allowing him to plunge to his death, her life heats up like a cast iron skillet over an open flame.
Following a more formal book presentation from each author, there will be a Q&A session. The event, which also features complimentary pupu and wine, concludes at 8 p.m.

Nene Readers gather Tuesday
The Nene Readers gathers for its February meeting 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.
Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, Nene Readers is a reading club at the Kailua-Kona Public Library for fourth, fifth and sixth graders hat focuses on reading, enjoying, analyzing, and discussing Nene Award-nominated books.
There will be time at the February meeting for club members to work on art projects based on their favorite Nene nominees. Club members will also have time to discuss Voting Party details.
There is still time to join the Nene Readers. Attend Tuesday’s meeting for additional information. Registration ends Feb. 28.

Honokaa Public Library book club gathers next week
The Honokaa Public Library hosts a book club from 5-6 p.m. Feb. 8.
For February’s gathering, the club is reading “Secret History of the Mongul Queens” by Jack Weatherford.
This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Hamakua Libraries — Honokaa. Copies may be available for pickup at the library.

Kona library hosts children’s reading challenge
Throughout February, the Kailua-Kona Public Library is hosting a children’s reading bingo challenge open to youngsters in kindergarten through grade 5.
Pick up an official bingo card in the Children’s Section. Read a complete row of four books (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) for a chance to win a prize. Only completed cards, including contact information and book information, will be considered for the prize drawing.
Completed cards must be returned to the library by 5 p.m. March 3 to enter the prize drawing. Prizes will be given to one winner who will be randomly selected from two grade divisions (kindergarten through second grade and third through fifth grade). The prize for the younger age division is a $25 gift certificate to Kona Stories Book Store while the older age division winner will receive a $30 gift certificate to the book store. Winners will be contacted March 6.

Go on a ‘Blind Date with a Book’
The Kailua-Kona Public Library is working to expand the genres read by teens with “Blind Date with a Book.”
Visit the Young Adult Section at Kailua-Kona Public Library during the month of February and browse the covers of the wrapped books on the Blind Date with a Book shelving cart, and choose one that appeals to you. A Blind Date book may be unwrapped only after you borrow it.
Like going on a blind date, you won’t know much about your “new partner,” except for a short quote from the book on the front cover. Take a chance and read something outside your “genre comfort-zone.” Each wrapped book has a book review form inside. After reading the book, complete the book review form and turn it in by Feb. 28 to enter to win a $25. Regal Theater gift card.
The program is recommended for teens in grades 6 to 12.
