Sarah Edlao

Sarah Kalehua Kahula Edlao, 60, of Peahi Haiku, Maui, died Jan. 25, 2018 at her home in Hilo. Born Aug. 18, 1957, to George and Sarah Kahula, she was a beloved sister, friend, confidant, aunty, co-worker, and had a strong heart for her savior Jesus Christ.

She will be missed by so many close friends. Sarah’s family is requesting only immediate family and closest friends to her memorial service. Please feel free to honor Sarah’s memory in your way. Aloha o’e, a hui hou, Sarah, until we meet again.

She is survived by sons Christopher (Beverly Borromeo) Macadangdang of Las Vegas, Nev., Duane Kaimana-Scott (Andy Todd) Edlao of Nashville, Tenn., and Kawika Ikaika Johnson (Lawrence) Kahumoku of Hilo; daughter Sheri-Lyn Kawailani Edlao of Maui; five grandchildren, Chasity Ortiz, Chasslyn Ortiz, Rusti-Lyn Kawaha, Halia Kan-Hai and Kory Macadangdang; one great-great-grandchild, Lavisha Ortiz; and brothers George Kahula Jr. and William Kahula of Maui.

Alfredo Madriaga

Alfredo Cortez Madriaga, 74, of Naalehu, Hawaii, died Jan. 16, 2018, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Oct. 24, 1943, he was a planter for Kau Agribusiness, a member of the Kau Filipino Community Club and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Naalehu.

Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. Feb. 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Naalehu; Mass at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Naalehu County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Brian) Baxter of Ocean View; sons Calvert Madriaga of Napoopoo, Brock (Carrie) Madriaga of Kealakehe, and Todd (Kawana’ao) Moser of Kaloa, Kona; hanai daughter Heather (Mervin) Naboa of Naaleu; brothers Augustine (Cecilia) Madriaga of Ocean View, Robert (Vanessa) Madriaga of Kealakehe, and Anthony (Margo) Mardriaga of Maui; sisters Maurine (Dave) DeBoer of North Carolina, Marlene Madriaga of Washington, and Blendalyn (Dale) Ishikawa of Ookala; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary Martin

Mary Frances Martin, 92, of Kamuela, died Jan. 3, 2018, at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama, she was a retired teacher.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 9, 2018, at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea.

John Lima

John Peter Apolei Lima, 67, of Waikoloa, died Jan. 2 at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born Feb. 23, 1950, in Kealakekua, he was a retired laborer, a member of Kuka’ilimoku Village Association and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Waikoloa.

Visitation 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Waikoloa. Service at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments to follow. For information call 987-2243.

He is survived by nephews Nelson (Abbie) Hanohano of Kailua Kona, Kaninau (Juan) Mano of Arizona, Kinimaka (Trenny) Mano of Pearl City; and nieces Georeen (Neil) Yamada of Honolulu, Marnett Kaleo Mano of Honolulu, Nohokula (George) Kahananui of Kailua Kona.

Ronald Galigo

Ronald “Rudy” Teodecio Galigo, 69, died Dec. 31, 2017. Born Sept. 24, 1948, he was a retired sugar plantation worker.

Services will be held on Feb. 10 at Ballard Family Mortuary, 570 Kinoole St., Hilo, HI, 96720. Visitation at 10:30 a.m., services at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.

Ronald is survived by his sons Ronald Rudy (Michelle) Galigo Jr., Godfrey Galigo, and Kevin (Shylah Tamura) Galigo of Kau; daughters Melissa (Daniel LeMaire) Galigo and Kristan (Sterling) Holeso of Kau; brothers Roy of Hilo, Tedy of Kau and George Marlon of Kau; sisters Dorinda Camara of Waikoloa, Althea Himan of Kona, Victoria Mattos of Kau, Lani Galigo and Lorna Galigo of Hilo; stepmother Cecelia Galigo; stepsister Athena Benevides; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephew, nieces and cousins.

Richard Koga

Richard Yutaka Koga, 91, of Kurtistown, Hawaii, died Jan. 5, 2018. Born on March 7, 1926, he was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and a retired mechanic.

Private services were held.

He is survived by his sons Wayne (Nanette) Koga of Hawaii and Edwin (Terri) Koga of California; sister Harriet Arakawa of Hawaii; grandchildren Brett (Lexie) Koga, Ciera Koga, and Kristin (Jason Phan) Koga; great-grandchild Lily Phan; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
