WAIKOLOA — There would be no upset or miracle comeback at the 27th annual Amer Ari on Saturday at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course. Oklahoma State was just too good.

The No. 1 nationally ranked Cowboys dominated the field on the final day of the University of Hawaii-Hilo hosted intercollegiate tournament, notching a 18-under 270 to finish 47-under par for the tournament, 17 strokes better than last year’s champion and runner-up Texas Tech.

Southern California finished third at 27-under.

Oklahoma State was paced by Viktor Hovland, who finished in a tie for second individually with teammate Matthew Wolff after posting a third day score of 7-under 65 for a three day total of 204. Hovland eagled both par 5s on the front nine and picked up four birdies on the back. His only blemish was a bogey on the par-4, 13th hole.

Wolff finished Day 3 at 4-under. Both Wolff and Hovland trailed Southern California’s Justin Suh, who shot three straight rounds in the 60s (69, 66, 68) to finish as the low medalist at 13-under.

Day 2 leader Hayden Wood struggled in the third round, posting a double bogey on the 17th hole to finish with a 1-under 71 for the Cowboys. At 11-under, he finished in a tied for fourth overall. Zach Bauchou wrapped up the scoring for Oklahoma State, finishing the third day of the tourney with a 3-under 69.

Southern California’s Kaito Onishi finished in a tie with Wolff for fourth to wrap up the top five low medalist. He shot a 69 on Day 3.

One of the biggest movers on the day was Texas Christian’s Stefano Mazzoli. Mazzoli jumped up 17 spots to finish in a tie for sixth after shooting a 7-under on the final day. He finished with nine birdies and two bogeys.
