KAILUA-KONA — Highway 190 was reopened last night after a brush fire north of Puuanahulu closed it.

Road closures were at Makalei in Kailua-Kona and the entrance to Daniel K. Inouye Highway in South Kohala.

The Department of Land and Natural Resource’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife is handling the situation as the fire occurred on state land.

According to an aerial survey Sunday morning, Hawaii County Fire Department battalion chief Ian Smith said the fire burned an estimated 900 to 930 acres.
