Katherine Mahi

Katherine Mahi, 75, of Waimea died Jan. 22, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired caregiver and was also a member and former Reverend of the Ke Ola Mau Loa “Everlasting Life” Church in Waimea.

Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. funeral service, followed by cremation. The family requests casual attire, no flowers.

She is survived by her brothers, Jacob Mahi, of Oahu, and Paul Mahi, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Elizabeth Halualani, of Hilo, and Phoebe Hopfe, of Oahu; hanai daughter, Salome Hagiwara, of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Farris Wilson

Farris Dean Wilson, 80, of Mountain View, died on Feb.11, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Aug. 7, 1937, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., he was a substitute teacher and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

A graveside urn committal service will be held at noon Feb. 15 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2; wake service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Hilo Town Tavern, 168 Keawe Street, Hilo. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Richard (Tiffany Shepherd) Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Israel Wilson of Hilo and Flynn (Emily Hedges) Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Ruth Mordoe of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; grandson, Sephiroth Fritz Shepherd of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Alfred Furusho

Alfred Mitsuji Furusho, 79, of Hilo, died Dec. 28, 2017. Born on Jan. 2, 1938, he was a computer programmer for Tab Services in Chicago and Jack’s Tours in Hilo.

Celebration of life to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 16 at Wailoa State Park Pavilion No. 3.

He is survived by sisters, Nora E. (Wilfred) Gono of Kaneohe, Oahu, Shirley S. (James) Alcosiba of Hilo; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Joe Hammer

Joe Keith Hammer, 96, of Waikoloa, died Feb. 7, 2018, at his residence. Born Jan. 24, 1922, in Sacramento, Calif., he was a retired pilot and World War II veteran, affiliated with the 306th Bomb Group. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen (Big Island Hangar), Afifi Shriners, Air America Association, and American Legion China Post 1.

Private services will be planned. In lieu of flowers, send donations to North Hawaii Hospice or a charity of your choice.

He is survived by wife, Carol Douglas-Hammer of Waikoloa; daughters, Rita Miller of Yuba City, Calif., Paula Wihl of Roseville, Calif.; hanai daughters, Cheryl Knox of Soquel, Calif., Robin Douglas of Reno, Nev., Susie Douglas of Gilroy, Calif.; hanai son, Richard Douglas of Hawthorne, Calif. numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
