No horseplay: Florida club closed due to hoofed attraction

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A bit featuring a scantily clad woman riding bareback on a white horse has prompted officials to shut down a Florida nightclub.

Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales announced Friday that he was revoking the Mokai Lounge’s business license.

A video went viral Thursday night that showed the woman riding the horse inside the club. As the animal moved through the crowded space, it appeared to panic, and the woman fell off.

Miami Beach police and code-enforcement officers began investigating after receiving multiple complaints, which ultimately led to the club shutting down. No injuries have been reported to humans or the animal.

Mokai Lounge can appeal the license revocation to the city’s special master. No one from the club immediately responded to a telephone message left by The Associated Press.

Four-legged fugitive: Big lizard escapes California pet shop

SAN DIEGO — Residents near San Diego are warned to watch out for a four-legged fugitive: a 5 ½-foot monitor lizard that wriggled out of its cage.

Mike Estevez tells KGTV that a 35-pound reptile named Bubbles was last seen on Sunday at his store, Mike’s Pets in Spring Valley.

Estevez says the carnivorous critter probably managed to escape through a tiny crevice at the bottom of a cage.

Security camera footage shows Bubbles sauntering toward the rear of the store.

Estevez says Bubbles is good around people and often roams the store while customers are around.

But he’s advising anyone who sees the reptile not to try grabbing him.

San Diego County’s Animal Services department is assisting in the search.

Maryland church offers chance to win salvation — and a car

COLUMBIA, Md. — Please, God, give me salvation — and a car.

That prayer may have been uttered by more than a few people at a Maryland church on Sunday. That’s because Destiny Church in Columbia handed out five used cars to demonstrate God’s goodness and to attract new members.

The Washington Post reported that the church gave away the cars to increase attendance at its new location. It was the first Sunday at a building in a strip mall for the 7-year-old nondenominational church.

Pastor Stephen Chandler said the predominantly African-American church normally draws up to 1,100 people. This week, the church gave away 2,250 tickets in advance of three services.

The church added a fourth service, which meant it had to buy another car to give away. The fifth car was given to a family in need.
