Myrtle Zukeran

Myrtle “Myrtie” Toyoko Zukeran, 69, of Hilo died Feb. 26, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, she was a former clerk for Clinical Labs of Hawaii and deli clerk at KTA Super Stores, member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission Kyodan &YBA, Hui Okinawa, former member of Kin Ryosho Dance Academy and Hilo Bon Dance Club.

Friends may call 2-3:30 p.m. March 17 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Raymond Zukeran of Hilo; son, Corey (Melanie) Zukeran of Pearl City; two sisters-in-law; two granddaughters, numerous nieces and nephews.

Cheyanne Anderson

Cheyanne Lee Anderson, 38, of Captain Cook, died Feb. 28, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in White Salmon, Wash. on May 14, 1979, she was a customer service representative at Keoki’s Fish and Chips and a member of Narcotics Anonymous.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17 at the Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona. A scattering of her ashes will be held after the service. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by her daughters, Kailee Anderson, Ember Anderson, Everdean Anderson, and August Lee Anderson, all of Captain Cook; mother, Belinda Lee Anderson and stepfather, Norm Catton, both of Captain Cook; brothers, Britt Anderson of Oregon, Casey Catton of Captain Cook, Loke Anderson, Merlin Anderson, and Doc Anderson, all of New Hampshire; sisters, Holly Anderson of Oregon, Kalina (Keoni) Llanes, and Marika Anderson, all of Kona; maternal grandmother, Betty (John) Ash of Florida; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Baji

John Baji, 84, of Keaau, died Feb. 2, 2018, at home. He was born in Honokaa, and was a retired construction worker and Veteran of the U.S. Army.

Friends may call noon March 14 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 where a graveside urn committal service will be held for both the Late Mr. Baji and his late wife, Patricia Baji, who died earlier on Nov. 29, 2012. Casual attire.

He is survived by his hanai son, John Branlund of Hilo; stepdaughters, Mary Madrigal of Mountain View and Deborah (Wilkie) Hayashida of Pahoa; stepsons, Timothy Creason of California, Jeffrey Creason of California and James (Danielle) Creason of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Marshall Baji of Honolulu; sister, Cecilia Ogata of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joseph Kumukoa

Mr. Joseph Kahalehii Kumukoa, 78, of Kapaau, Hawaii, died February 17, 2018 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Keei, Hawaii on November 20, 1939, he was a laborer for the City and County of Honolulu. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kohala Senior Citizens Group and the Kohala Senior Citizens Softball League.

Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. March 17 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kohala Chapel in Hawi for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire worn and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by his brothers, Lee (Virginia) Dela Cruz and Eric (Elsie) Dela Cruz, all of Kapaau; sister, Gail (Frank) Pelekai of San Diego; one sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Florence Fergerstrom

Florence A. “Flossie” Fergerstrom, 88, of Hilo, died Feb. 17, 2018, at residence. Born on April 11, 1929, in Honokaa, she was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Girl Scouts of America and Family Community Enrichment (FCE).

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. March 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed. Burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

She is survived by son, Dale (Jody) Fergerstrom of Captain Cook; daughters, Ann Fergerstrom and Fay (Bradda) Lindsey of Hilo; grandsons, Kele and Jake Fergerstrom, Ethan Fergerstrom, Casey and Cody Lindsey; three great-granddaughters; sister, Evelyn Amiel of Prescott, Arizona.

Ramon Abong

Ramon Patrick Abong, 94, of Pepeekeo, died Feb. 14, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born on Feb. 9, 1924, in (Olaa), Keaau, he worked as a welder for the former Jensen Welding Shop in Hilo and he also was an employee at the Hakalau Sugar Plantation and Hilo Coast Processing Company and as an electrician. He also was a veteran in the U.S. Army and served during World War II from December 1944 to November 1946.

Services were held.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andres Lomasad Abong and Marciana Abapo Abong; brothers, Spriana and Pacifico Abong and infant sister, Maile Abong.

He is survived by wife of 70 years, Martha Abong of Pepeekeo; sons, Raymond D. (La) Abong and Robert J. Abong of Pepeekeo; daughters, Pauline T. Abong (Dennis) McCless of Pepeekeo and Oahu and Sylvia L. Abong (Franklin) Kakazu of Puhi, Kauai; one sister-in-law; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Fumiko Cunningham

Fumiko “Fumi” Tokumaru Cunningham, 71, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 27, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 10, 1946, in Kawatana, Japan, she was a retired certified nursing assistant for Life Care Center of Kona.

Private service held.

She is survived by son, Shelly (Shawna) Cunningham of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Wendi (Matt) Brunetti of California; sisters, Akiko Sakanoue, Atsuko Izumi; brothers, Kazuo Tokumaru, Takashi Tokumaru; three grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Rodney Clark Sr.

Rodney “Butchie” “Bugsy” Hooheno Clark, Sr., 75, of Hilo, died Feb. 27, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo and retired from the Hawaiian Electric Light Company, he was also a U.S. Army veteran, member of Haili Church and was a Hilo Jaycees Rooster.

Services were held.

He is survived by his wife, Karen L. Clark of Hilo; son, Rodney H. (Nyra Dee) Clark, Jr. of Hilo; daughter, Stephanie Clark of Hilo; sisters, Leilani (Clement, Sr.) Malani of Hilo, Laverne Sylva of Kona, Pauline (Ron) Hirai of Oahu, Sharon (Del) Scott of Oahu, Janet Uchida of Oahu and Lillian (Ed) Noll of Oregon; brother, Joe (Kathy) Hirata of Oahu; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

James Kaili

James “Kimo” “Cap” Kaili, 87, of Hilo, died Feb. 10, 2018, at the Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation &Nursing Center. He was born in Hilo and was a retired product delivery driver with Chevron USA, former pastor of the Hilo Gospel of Salvation Church, and a member of New Hope Church.

Services were held.

He is survived by his former spouse and caregiver, Paula Vinoskey of Hilo; sister, Winona Batalona of Honolulu; sons, Matthew (Vivian) Kaili of Kona, Mark Kaili of Hilo and Luke Kaili of Honolulu; daughters, Kathy Kaili of Nev., Lokelani (Eli) Kipili’i of Hilo, Napua (Trent) Nihau of Hilo and Iwalani (Trace) Waltjen of Hilo; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
