Paint your own silk scarf returns to Volcano Art Center

Join Big Island artist Patti Pease Johnson for the Paint Your Own Silk Scarf workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 14 at Volcano Art Center. Cost for the workshop is $50 and $45 for VAC Members plus a $10 supply fee per person. Beginner and intermediate artists are welcome.

Patti Pease Johnson’s artwork can be found at galleries and shops across the state, and in collections around the world. She lives in Kea‘au with her family and teaches painting at her home studio.

‘That’s Entertainment!’ benefit event for VASH Hawaii Island

VASH Hawaii Island presents its fourth annual cabaret show, “That’s Entertainment!” on April 14 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Kona Tap Room.

Straight from New York City, acclaimed duo KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler, perform their entertaining show, “That’s Entertainment!,” to benefit VASH Hawaii Island.

Ticket price includes free standard parking, silent auction and a cash bar. All proceeds benefit VASH Hawaii Island, whose mission is to provide assistance to visitors affected by adversity.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Baroque aria concert featuring soprano Sierra Spruce

Local soprano Sierra Spruce, well known soloist in many Kona Choral Society performances, will join Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble on April 8, 15, and 22 to present a colorful and varied collection of arias with obligato solo instruments from baroque operas, secular cantatas and sacred works.

A 3 p.m. concert will take place on April 8 at the Kailua-Kona Lutheran Church on Lako St. A private residence in Kailua-Kona is hosting a 3 p.m. concert on April 15. A third concert will take place at 3 p.m. April 22 at Holo Holo Ku Gatehouse in Waimea.

Entries sought for biennial printmaking exhibition in Hilo

The University of Hawaii at Hilo art department announces the call for entries for the 2018 Pacific States Biennial North American printmaking exhibition, scheduled for Nov. 2 through Dec. 28 at the Campus Center Gallery and East Hawaii Cultural Center. The entry deadline is Aug. 18.

PSBN is a premier Hawaii exhibition in its 36th year and open to all artists 18 years or older, residing anywhere throughout North America and the U.S. territories.

The exhibition is hosted by the UH Hilo art department in conjunction with the Campus Center Gallery with support from the Student Activities Council, the East Hawaii Cultural Center, and the Howard and Yoneko Droste Bequest.

The 29th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival set for August, films needed

The Honolulu Gay &Lesbian Cultural Foundation (HGLCF) is honored to produce the 29th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival (HRFF29) at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art, Aug. 9-19.

HRFF29 will showcase films from around the world, plus discussions with delegates. The festival is also announcing a partnership with APQFFA, the Asian Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance, who will sponsor a showcase of short films from notable festivals including ShanghaiPRIDE and Rainbow Reel Tokyo.

All-Access Festival passes will go on sale April 1. Early-bird specials starting at $85 are available until May 1.
