KAILUA-KONA — Area boaters are invited to take part in an effort to clean up the waters off Kona when Big Island Wave Riders Against Drugs presents “Scoop It: Marine Debris.”

Organizer Jeff Fear said he recently pulled about 100 yards worth of rubbish and debris along the current line off Makalawena Beach in just 30 minutes and is seeking boaters who can take part in a larger effort at the end of this month.

Those able to participate should meet at 8:30 a.m. on April 28 at the Honokohau boat ramp. Fear can be reached at 896-6966.
