Fire officials investigating two structure fires in Pahoa

Fire officials are investigating the causes of two structure fires that occurred Wednesday in Pahoa.

The first fire was reported 12:42 a.m. at 15-2755 Opihi Street. When firefighters arrived at the single-story home at 15-2755 Opihi Street, they found a pickup truck, garage and kitchen on fire. No one was home at the time and crews extinguished the blaze within a half-hour, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

No estimate on damage to the structure was provided.

Firefighters responded to the second fire at 5:12 p.m.Wednesday, arriving at 16-2022 King Kamehameha Boulevard in the Tiki Gardens subdivision to find a single-story, three bedroom family residence engulfed in flames. A vehicle in the carport was also involved in the fire, according to the department.

No one was home at the time the fire broke out, the department said. The fire was declared extinguished at 6:45 p.m.

Damage to the 1,056-square-foot home was estimated at $90,000.
