Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Wednesday evening fire at an abandoned home in Hilo.

Responding to the 8:06 p.m. alarm, firefighters were initially dispatched to a reported brush fire but arrived at the scene on Hoaka Road to find a two-story home with its first and second floors on fire, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

The department noted that when they got to the home, it appeared to have been abandoned and many of its windows were covered with plywood.

Firefighters deployed multiple lines to douse the flames and declared the blaze extinguished at 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Once the fire was declared out, personnel confirmed nobody was in the residence. In addition, no injuries were reported.

Fire officials estimated damage at $100,000.
