Alton Carvalho

Alton James Carvalho, 59, of Hilo, died April 9, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a truck driver and warehouseman with Mihara Transfer Co. and the former HT&T Co., and was also an avid hunter and fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Friends may call 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 21 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6:30 p.m. memorial prayer service. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by his son, Castle Carvalho of Hilo; mother, Henrietta Carvalho of Hilo; brother, Raymond J. (Linda Clinton) Carvalho, Jr. of Hilo; one sister-in-law; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mariano Carriaga, Sr.

Mariano Carriaga, Sr., 91, of Hilo, died March 21, 2018, at home. Born in Kohala, he was a retired combustion control worker with the Hawaii Electric Light Company, a veteran of the U.S. Army, original member of the Apostles Motorcycle Club, member of the Big Island Independents Motorcycle Club, G &K Ohana Motorcycle Club, and the Road Knights Motorcycle Club.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 at the Papaikou Hongwanji Mission Hall for a 10 a.m. celebration of life service. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Carriaga of Hilo; sons, Mariano (Darlene) Carriaga, Jr. of Hilo, Mark C. (Beverly) Carriaga of Kailua-Kona and Michael Carriaga-Pascual of Ocean View; daughters, Marie Elena (Dean) Rocha of Kailua-Kona and Mona Lisa Spalding of Hilo; hanai son, Benji (Heidi) Carriaga of Napoopoo; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sandra Poe

Sandra Ann Felix Poe, 56, of Del Rio, Texas, and formerly of Big Island, died Nov. 3, 2017, in Texas. Born April 21, 1961, in Hilo, she was the owner/ proprietress of SanDee’s Diner on the mainland.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. April 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for an 11 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire; flower lei are welcomed.

She is survived by husband, Jay of Del Rio, Texas; children, Jason and Jocelynn of Colorado and Oahu; stepchildren, Arianne and CJ of the mainland; six grandchildren; brothers and a sister and their families from Hilo and Oahu.

Morna Malani

Morna Malani, known as Aunty Mona Malani, died April 7, 2018, in Las Vegas.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. April 28 for an 11 a.m. service at Laupahoehoe Congregation Church.

She is survived by brother, Clement Malani Sr. (Ruby), one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
