Murao Suzuki

Mr. Murao “Mura” Suzuki, 85, of Paauilo, died Feb. 16, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 18, 1932, in Paauilo, he was a retired machinist from the Hamakua Sugar Company and a member of Kongoji Mission in Paauilo, the Paauilo Camp Kumiai, Hilo Lehua Bowling League, and a U.S. Army veteran who fought in the Korean Conflict.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. April 28 at the Paauilo Kongoji Mission Church in Paauilo for an 11 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire.

He is survived by his nephews, Owen (Jackie) Suzuki of Kailua-Kona and Warren Choda of Maui; nieces, Carol Choda of Haiku, Maui, Sharon (Randall) Elston of Cave Junction, Ore., and Arlene (Jon) Emerson of Kula, Maui; sister-in-law, Suga Suzuki of Kailua-Kona.

Hazel Kawai Pu

Hazel W. Kawai Pu, 84, of Waianae, died Feb. 15, 2018, at Kalakaua Gardens in Honolulu. She was born on March 25, 1933, in South Kohala and retired from the Board of Water Supply. She served four years in the Navy and volunteered over 20 years at St. Rita’s Church in Nanakuli.

Services were held at St. Rita’s Church and burial will be 10 a.m. April 28 at the Waimea County Cementry.

She is survived by her children, Manuel Farias lll, Carol Farias, Anna Jessionka, Christopher Farias, Ruth Lay, Mary Ellen Farias, Cathleen Rodrigues, and Robert D. Farias; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by sister Tepa Fase and brother Robert Kawai.

Gene Haleamau

Gene Norbert Kaimipono Haleamau, 72, of Hilo, died March 29, 2018, at home. Born on Dec. 18, 1945, in Hilo, he was a stevedore for HT&T and Matson; and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. April 28 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo for a 7 p.m. prayer service with cremation to follow. A graveside urn committal service will be held at noon May 1 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by, wife, Marilyn Haleamau; daughter, Tracey Haleamau; son, Brandon Haleamau; sisters, Patricia (Solomon) Haleamau and Daisy Mona Kanakamaikai; stepchildren, John (Kelli) Moniz, Kristine (Gadi) Pulgados, Jered (Joyce) Moniz and Claylyn (Patrick) Martines; one sister-in-law; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the rest of the Haleamau Ohana.

Louisa Maikui

Louisa Moikeanu Maikui Labrador, 86, of Kamuela, died March 20, 2018 at her daughter’s residence. She was born in Maulua, Ookala, and prior to retirement she worked as a bus driver for Ryusaki Corp., Laupahoehoe Trans, and Roberts Hawaii, and was a member of the Ke Ola Mau Loa Church.

Friends may call 10-11 a.m. April 28 at the Mana Christian Ohana Church,67-1182 Lindsey Road in Kamuela. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Family requests casual attire and flowers be omitted. Online condolences: www.homelanimemorialpark.com.

She is survived by daugthers, Brigida “Bernie” (Carl) Ryusaki of Kamuela, HI and Teresita Maile (Elwood) Labrador of Laupahoehoe; sons, Greg (Laura) Labrador of Kamuela, and John Labrador of Kamuela; hanai daughters, Roxane Esquerra of Honokaa and Genara Esquerra of Honokaa; hanai sons, Boysey Esquerra of Honokaa, and Tony Kaniho of Alaska; sisters, Mahoe Eugenio of Ookala, and Betty-Ann Souza of Las Vegas; brothers, Alika (Marion) Maikui of Ookala, and Albert (Sweetie) Maikui of Hilo; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
