KAILUA-KONA — Kahakai Elementary School held its annual May Day celebration Friday evening with the theme Halihali Na Mokupuni o Hawaii, or “Gathering of the Hawaiian Islands.

Organizers felt it was important to teach the keiki about unity and how important it is to be one and work together.

“Like gathering the islands, we are all from different cultures and places, we are the melting pot of cultures. This is what makes Hawaii special,” the May Day program read.
