Patsy Shioji

Patsy Keiko Shioji, 77, of Kamuela, died April 27, 2018, at her residence. Born June 7, 1940, in Kamuela, she was a vegetable farmer and a member of the Japanese Civic Association and the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission.

Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. May 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. A 5 p.m. funeral service and dinner will be held following the services at the mortuary’s lanai. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her brothers, Kenneth (Taiko) Shioji of El Paso, Texas and Richard (Missy) Shioji of Los Angeles; sisters, Harumi Cummings of San Bernardino, Calif., and Jane Muto of Torrance, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mei Yeh Cheng

Mrs. Mei Yeh Cheng, 71, of Kailua-Kona, died April 25, 2018, at her residence. Born on Sept. 10, 1946, in Taiwan, she worked many years as an office manager in the medical practice of her late husband, Dr. Minolu Cheng.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by her sons, Kipp (Mark Jarecke) Jarecke-Cheng of Maplewood, N.J., Jadd (Virginia Nicholson) Cheng of Austin, Texas and Jeffrey (Daniel Sjoberg) Cheng of New York, N.Y.; daughters, Honlee Cheng of Taiwan, Fan Lan (Yitzik) Brenman of Belmont, Calif. and Jonadine (Bret) Caillarec of Kailua-Kona; and eight grandchildren.

Robert McDonald

Robert “Bob” McDonald, 86, of Captain Cook, died May 3, 2018, at the VA Community Living Center at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on Oct. 31, 1931, Bob proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was an award-winning coffee farmer in the Captain Cook area for the past 40 years.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later this summer.

He is survived by wife, Jean Yokoyama of Captain Cook and Honolulu; sons Carter (Heather) Yokoyama of Captain Cook, Colin (Lisa) Yokoyama of Honolulu, and Duane (Peggi) McDonald of Dana Point, Calif.; daughter Leslie (Dave) Barrett of Prescott, Ariz.; five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet Bishop

Violet Leinani Santos Cho Bishop, 85, of Wailuku, Maui, and formerly of South Kona and Honolulu, died April 29, 2018 at Hospice Maui. Born June 26, 1932 in South Kona, she was a homemaker and a retired certified nurse assistance.

Private service held.

She is survived by daughters, Nora (George Sheridan) Cho Sheridan of Keaau, Donnafaye (Tommy) Gamurot of Kahului, Lily (Edwin Kipu) Cho Kipu; son, Eugene (Cynnamon) Cho, Jr. of Waiehu; brothers, Patrick (Chiyo) Bush, Jr. of Honolulu, David Bush, Sr. of Keaau; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Merney Baysa

Merney Keaoililani Baysa, 78, of Kurtistown, died April 29, 2018, at home. He was born on March 13, 1940, in Hilo, and was a retired operations supervisor for the County Wastewater Division and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. on May 16, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Funeral service begins at 10:30 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by, wife, Lynn Ahlgren; sister, Marylyn Soaladaop; sister-in-law, Lorna Baysa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
