Oceans Day celebration June 8
June 8 is World Oceans Day, and Hawaii State Parks and Keep Puako Beautiful have partnered with more than 10 different organizations to host a celebration of all things ocean.
Join the celebration at Hapuna Beach State Park. From 7:30-9 a.m. a speed beach cleanup and marine debris survey will take place. Bring water shoes, hat, reef-safe sunscreen, water bottle, and an item to contribute to a potluck. Cleanup supplies, tally sheets, water and snacks are provided and keiki are welcome.
Also, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., kid-friendly interactive educational booths will be at the Hapuna Beach South Pavilion and will include NOAA Fisheries, The Coral Reef Alliance, Lynker Technologies, Recycle Hawaii, Liquid Robotics and more.

Kiwanis Club presents scholarships
Kiwanis Club of Kailua-Kona president Doug Payne, Key Club advisor Sandy Dowling and Kiwanis Club president-elect Bob Clark attended the Kealakehe High School Senior Awards Banquet on May 17 to present $1,000 scholarships to two deserving graduating seniors.
Caleb Kow, immediate past president, and Mingxia Hawkins, immediate past treasurer of Kealakehe High School Key Club, were each recipients of the $1,000 awards as well as receiving Valedictorian and Class Top 10 Percent Certificates.
Kiwanis member Nancy Sperko, who was unable to attend the event, was responsible for coordinating the 2018 scholarship program.
