19 arrested for suspected DUI

KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 19 motorists for suspected drunken driving between May 28 and Sunday. Two of those drivers were involved in a traffic crash.

Puna officers arrested seven motorists while Kona officers arrested six, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in South Hilo arrested four drivers and Ka’u officers arrested two.

So far this year, there have been 493 DUI arrests compared with 506 during the same period last year, according to police.

Through Tuesday, there have been 15 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads compared with 19 fatalities at this time last year.
