No tsunami following M-5.6 earthquake near Kilauea summit

KAILUA-KONA — No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-5.6 earthquake that struck shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday near the summit of Kilauea volcano.

The temblor, recorded at 4:07 p.m., was located near 3 miles west-southwest of Volcano Village and had a registered depth of less than 0.1 miles, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The center said that while some areas may have experienced strong shaking, no tsunami is expected.
