Roller derby players from the Waimea Wranglers, Paradise Roller Girls of Hilo and Echo City Knockouts of Kona will battle in a “Fire vs. Ice” charity event at Waimea District Park this Friday to benefit those displaced by the current lava flow.

The event will begin with an exhibition bout of junior roller derby ages 7-17 at 4:30 p.m., followed by an adult co-ed bout at 5 p.m.

Waimea Wranglers will match the first $500 raised, to be donated to Hope Services Hawaii. Other needed donations are pillows, twin-fitted sheets, blankets, bath towel sets, new house slippers, bath soap, full size shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, dish soap, feminine pads, shaver/shave cream, toilet paper, laundry soap and nonperishable foods to be collected at the event by The Big Island Giving Tree.

Volunteers interested in helping out at the event can email info@waimeawranglers.org.
