Livingston Taylor performing on the Big Island in October
Livingston Taylor is coming to Hawaii for a three concert tour.
Taylor will be playing in Maui at the Maui Arts &Cultural Center – McCoy Studio Theater on Oct. 26, and will then travel to the Big Island for an Oct. 27 show at the Palace Theatre and an Oct. 28 show at the Pyramid House Community Party, 76-6322 Kaheiau St., Kailua-Kona.
Livingston has never stopped performing since those early coffeehouse days, shared the stage with major artists such as Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmy Buffett and Jethro Tull, and he maintains a busy concert schedule, touring internationally. He is a natural performer, peppering his shows with personal stories, anecdotes and ineffable warmth that connect him to his fans. His relaxed on-stage presence belies the depth of his musical knowledge, and fans might just as often be treated to a classic Gershwin or something from the best of Broadway.
Livingston is a full professor at Berkeley College of Music, where he has taught a stage performance course since 1989. His high-selling book, “Stage Performance,” released in 2011 offers those lessons to anyone who is interested in elevating their presentation standards to professional standards.

Resort grand opening to benefit American Cancer Society
The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort celebrates its renovation, rebranding and grand opening on from 6-10 p.m. July 14 at a gala affair with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum opening
The grand opening of the Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum and Gallery is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The day will start with a Hawaiian blessing and complementary museum tours all day. Learn about the art and culture of Hawaiian style quilting, watch a Hawaiian quilting demonstration and trace a Hawaiian quilt design to take home. The Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum and Gallery is family-friendly with activities for keiki and a small library of children’s and general books about Hawaiian quilting.
The Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum and Gallery is sponsored by the Kona Hawaiian Quilt Museum Society, a local non-profit organization, and is located in downtown Kona at 75-5706 Kuakini Highway, Suite 112. They are located in Hanama Place at the bottom of Henry Street, right by Big Island Grill, with free parking underneath the building. Aloha Theatre announces its new season
Fall means the beginning of a new theatrical season, and the Aloha Theatre has a lineup with something for everyone.
Opening the mainstage season will be “The Addams Family,” the new Broadway musical by Andrew Lippert, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, based on the macabre family created by cartoonist Charles Addams. Production dates are Oct. 12-28.
“A Christmas Story” returns to the Aloha stage this holiday season. This zany comedy by Philip Grecian is based on the timeless 1983 Warner Brothers movie of the same name. It will play Nov. 30 through Dec. 16.
The “snowbird” slot, Feb. 8 through March 10, will be occupied by Broadway’s “Mamma Mia,” the runaway hit musical by Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of the Swedish pop group ABBA.
“Harvey,” the classic American comedy by Mary Chase, is next up on the bill. This is the quirky story of Elwood P. Dowd and his best friend, a six-foot tall invisible rabbit. Production dates are May 3-19.
The season will close with “Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr.” This delightful tale, based on the 1953 animated film, features music adapted and arranged by Eric Svejcar, and book by David Zellnik. The cast will consist of performers all under the age of 18. The show will play June 21-30. Season tickets will be available by Sept. 1.

Harbor Gallery announces the 2018 Summer Wood Show
The 2018 Summer Wood Show runs from July 7 to Aug. 4 at the Harbor Gallery. With nearly 50 entries for this summer’s show, there is a wide variety of items to see and buy, The public can also come and vote for their favorites and ballots will be tabulated at the end of the show and the winner in each category will receive a prize of $100, with the top vote getter overall receiving a $250 prize for the People’s Choice Award and ultimate bragging rights.

As always, 10 percent of the proceeds from items sold in the show is donated to the Kohala Watershed Partnership, which is working together to protect and sustain the forest, the water and the people of Kohala Mountain. In the last eight years, Harbor Gallery has donated more than $43,000 to this cause.
Harbor Gallery is located next to Kohala Divers in the Kawaihae Shopping Center on the lower level, where it has been for 28 years. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., featuring the artwork of over 200 Big Island artists.
