Edward Molina

Edward Alexander Molina, 72, of Hilo died June 14, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born July 15, 1945, in Hilo, he was a retired musician.

Graveside service and burial of his cremated remains will take place at Alae Cemetery in Hilo on July 21 at 11 a.m. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by brother, David Kealoha Molina of Hilo.

Gilbert Tomas

Gilbert “Gil” Tomas, 76, of Hilo died July 6, 2018, at home. He was born in Hilo and was a retired detective sergeant with the Hawaii County Police Department, member of the Kaumana Drive Baptist Church, coach for the Waiakea High School girls basketball team, a member, coach and one of the original organizers of the Hawaii Island Police Activities League and a coach in other youth basketball activities.

Friends may call 2:30-4 p.m. July 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Odetta Newcomb Tomas of Hilo; son, Eric (Ilima) Tomas of Las Vegas; daughter, Debbie Walker of Wailuku, Maui; brothers, Eddie Tomas of Honolulu, Julio (Janet) Tomas of Mountain View, Jaime (Mary) Tomas and Raphael (Bernie) Tomas, all of Hilo; sisters, Aggie (Eben) Maikui and Helen Latorre, both of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Linda Tomas of Honolulu, Marina Tomas of Hilo, Margaret Tomas of California, Nellie Tomas of Honolulu, Georgie Rabago of Hilo, Ronnie Higa of Hilo, Fifi Newcomb of Los Angeles, and Lynn Newcomb of Hilo; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jarett Pestano

Jarett Kealoha Pestano, 65, of Pahala, died June 25, 2018, at home. Born Dec. 30, 1952, in Ka’u, he was a farmer in Moaula.

He is survived by daughters, Ilona (Tohon Thicker) Pestano of Hilo, Theresa (Troy Rodrigues) Pestano of Oregon, Ke’ani (Keli’iokekai) Kamchaiku of Hilo; brother Kevin (Susan) Pestano of Pahala; sisters Leanette (Bakeley) Yoshida, Annette (William) Mitchell, Diane (Laureno) Galban of Pahala, Brenda (Robert) Tupek of Utah; five grandchildren.

Friends may call July 21 at Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church; visitation at 8 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

Wilgreg Lopez Sr.

Wilgreg “Greg” Juan Lopez Sr., 51, of Kailua-Kona died June 21, 2018, at Kaiser Medical Center Moanalua. Born Sept. 28, 1966, in Angadanan, Philippines, he was a baker at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. July 23 at Old “A” Makaeo pavilion in Kailua-Kona; funeral service at 6 p.m. followed by an all-night vigil at the family’s residence at 74-5140 Iluna Place in Kailua-Kona. Graveside service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on July 24 at Kona Memorial Park. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Helen Lopez of Kailua-Kona; sons, Sonny Lopez and Wilgreg Lopez Jr., both of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Maritess (Sheldon) Riveira of Kailua-Kona; mother, Esther (Michael) Juan-Lopez-King of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Wilson (Anna Fe) Lopez of Kailua-Kona, Agustin (Ellen) Lopez Jr. of Honolulu, Marlon Lopez of Seattle and Dondon Lopez of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Clarizza Lopez and Wilma Lopez, both of Kailua-Kona, and Janemar (Kupono) Kaluna of Waikoloa; two grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Keith Takayama

Keith Izumi Takayama, 65, of Papaikou died July 1, 2018, in Hilo. He was born in 1959, in Hilo.

He is survived by son, Jared (Stephanie) Takayama of Papaikou; daughter, Kristy (Kelson Valenzuela) Takayama of Hilo; and seven grandchildren.

Marian Taketa

Marian Hiroko Taketa, 84, of Hilo died July 6, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired social worker for the State of Hawaii.

No services. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by sons, Stuart Taketa of Hilo and Brant (Dana) Taketa of Irvine, California; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd Hansford

Floyd Hansford, 92, of Hilo, died July 5, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Jan. 18, 1926, he was retired from Coca-Cola, Winslow, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and member of Winslow Lodge #13 F&AM.

Private services to be held.

Floyd is survived by sons, Floyd (Deana) Hansford Jr. of Kansas, Myron (Francis) Robison of Arizona, and Sam (Carie) Hansford of Hilo; daughter, Linda (Damien) Arruda of Hilo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirl Peterson

Shirl Henry Peterson, of Holualoa died June 25, 2018, in Kealakekua. Born July 26, 1961, in Payson, Utah, he was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, Uinta National Forest Reserve forest ranger in Utah and wokred in drywall construction for his family business, Kona Drywall.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Roslyn; son, Jonathan Peterson of Kailua-Kona; daughter Kristina Peterson of Holualoa; brother, Ursel Peterson of Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law Sandy Peterson of Orem, Utah; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kahokualaka’I Puahala

Kahokualaka’I Puahala, 24, of Hilo died July 7, 2018. He was born in 1993, in Hilo.
