KAILUA-KONA — Military units will convoy between Kawaihae Harbor and Pohakuloa Training Area beginning Friday.

The units will be traveling from the military training area situated in the saddle between Mauna Loa and Maunakea through July 28.

Convoys are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will use the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and the Akoni Pule Corridor.

Additionally during July, community members may notice an increase in convoys and military training, to include aviation activities, at and around Pohakuloa as a result of the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. Military activity at the port of Kawaihae will also increase as units arrive and depart with their equipment.
