KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police are still searching for Justin Waiki in the murder of Officer Bonson K. Kailioa who was fatally shot in Mountain View on Tuesday evening while on duty.

On Friday afternoon, police announced another $2,000 had been added to the $30,000 reward for information leading to the capture of 33-year-old Waiki. Additional funds were provided by Islandwide Crime Stoppers.

On Thursday, the FBI, U.S. Marshalls and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms each contributed $10,000 to the reward.

The islandwide manhunt has been underway since Waiki allegedly shot and killed Kalikoa. The most recent reported sighting of the fugitive was in Kailua-Kona on Thursday, which led to the arrests of Harvey Damo Jr. and Shevylyn Klaus.

A reported shooting at Ka Hale Kahaluu in Kailua-Kona at 4:58 p.m. began police on a vehicle pursuit of individuals traveling south in a truck. Eventually, the occupants of the vehicle stopped on Middle Keei Road in Honaunau and fled on foot.

After hours of combing South Kona’s countryside, they located Damo and Klaus. Waiki was never found and police are working to determine if he was ever present during the incident.

Investigators are also trying to figure out if Damo and Klaus are known associates of Waiki.

Waiki is considered armed and extremely dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the departments number at 935-3311 or for those who wish to remain anonymous call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
