KAILUA-KONA — A high surf advisory remains posted for Hawaii Island shores through Monday afternoon.

Wave heights of 5 feet to 8 feet are forest along south-facing shores through 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The surf is being generated by a long-period south swell that’s expected to gradually lower through Tuesday, forecasters said. Thereafter, small south swells are expected to maintain background surf along south-facing shores from mid-week into next weekend.
