HILO — Those wanting to donate to the family of fallen Puna patrol Officer Bronson K. Kaliloa can do so by dropping off or mailing checks to the Pahoa police station.

Checks can be made out to Casey Kaliloa, the officer’s wife.

The mailing address for the station is 15-2615 Keaau-Pahoa Hwy., Pahoa, HI 96778.

“Donations are already starting to come in. We’ll make sure they get it,” Maj. Samuel Jelsma, the Puna police commander, said.

West Hawaii Today and the Hawaii Tribune-Herald on Friday announced they are donating a combined $5,000 to the family.

“The loss of Officer Kaliloa is a tragedy,” David Bock, editor and publisher of the Tribune-Herald, said. “I encourage anyone who is saddened by his death to help support his ohana with a monetary contribution. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”

Those wishing to donate online can visit a GoFundMe page under the name “Kaliloa ‘Ohana.” It was set up for the family by Teleise Scanlan, who Jelsma confirmed is the wife of a fellow Puna patrol officer. The URL is: www.gofundme.com/kaliloa-ohana.

As of Friday, the page had raised more than $30,000 in two days.
