11 arrested for suspected DUI

KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 11 motorists for suspected drunken driving between July 16 and Sunday.

Puna officers arrested seven motorists while Kona officers arrested two, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in Hamakua and South Kohala arrested one driver in each district.

So far this year, there have been 639 DUI arrests compared with 647 during the same period last year, according to police.

Through Monday, there have been 20 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 21 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
