LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) — A Hawaii beachfront resort already ravaged by flooding and landslides saw a fire destroy a single-story building on the property.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports a fire Friday night destroyed a building at the Hanalei Colony Resort. Flooding and landslides in mid-April caused extensive damage to the property and throughout Kauai’s north shore following record rainfall.
Kauai County spokeswoman Kim Tamaoka says the cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimate is available.
Officials say one building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. The blaze was brought under control by 9:30 p.m.
It’s unclear how many units were destroyed, but it appears the building was gutted.
Hanalei Colony was closed after the April flooding, and its website says all reservations for arrivals through Oct. 31 have been canceled.
