Joe Timmons
“Aloha Joe” Timmons, 72, of Kailua-Kona, died July 14, 2018, in Kentucky, from injuries received from a motorcycle accident. Born in Honolulu in 1946, he served in the USN as a pilot and flight instructor in the Vietnam era. He was an avid scuba diver starting in the early 1970, became and instructor and has continued to enjoy the sport. Retiring from Clorox he moved to Kona in 2005 and was active in many local activities including the Aloha Patrol, Underwater Photo Group, Master Gardening and Ironman, where he carried photographers and provided cyclist support on his motorcycle.
Joe was on his annual motorcycle trip on the mainland visiting friends he has known for many years from his work and SCUBA diving club in the California Bay Area.
Joe lived with his companion Lea Sykes and their dog Beau for many years here in Kona. They had just started to rebuild an older home in Kona that they had planned on moving into when finished.
Akiko Kohara
Akiko Kohara, 94, of Hilo, died July 3, 2018, at a private care home in Naalehu. Born in Hilo, she was a retired floral worker for the former Mauna Loa Orchids and Orchids of Hawaii and member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission.
Private services were held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).
She is survived by caregivers, Helen and Romeo Sembran of Naalehu; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Marie Haena
Marie Angela Bodet Haena, 75, of Kailua-Kona, died July 31, 2018, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey on October 1, 1942, she was a former Catholic nun. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Secular Franciscans.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona for a 10 a.m. mass. Inurnment will be at noon at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin Haena of Kailua-Kona; sons, Tracy Haena of San Mateo, California and Todd Haena of Foster City, California; daughter, Anna Haena of Tracy, California; brother, Paul Bodet of Boynton Beach, Florida; sisters, Lillian (William) Barry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Joan McCarthy of Marshfield, Massachusetts; one grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean Wygal
Jean “Aunty Jeannie” Uilani Wygal, 79, of Hilo, died on Aug. 1, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was the resident council president of the Life Care Center of Hilo and a volunteer for Hospice and AARP.
Private services were held.
She is survived by sons, Joseph Wells of Volcano, and Maverick Kang Sr. of Hilo; daughters, Lori (Ira) Varize of Hilo and Jolean Yamada of Hilo; sister, Blanche Willingham of Kailua; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

Samuel Kaitell
Samuel Basil Kaitell, 69, of Hilo, died on July 29, 2018, at residence. Born on September 6, 1948, in Sierra Leon, Freetown, West Africa, he was a proprietor for an automobile parts store.
Friends may call on Aug. 12 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Casual attire is requested.
He is survived by wife, John-Nee Juanita Keliikuli Kaitell of Hilo; daughter, Fasiya Kaitell of Cincinnati, Ohio; sons, Sidi Kaitell, Rashid Kaitell and Daniel Kaitell of Hilo; two granddaughters and two grandsons.

Peter Veincent
Peter Claver Veincent, Jr., 48, of Hilo, died on July 16, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a tour driver for Fun Tours.

Kim Nakamura
Kim “Ki’i” Nakamura, 56, of Kohala, died July 1, 2018, at Kohala Hospital. Born in Honokaa, son of Betsy (Pacheco) and Yone Nakamura, he was raised in Waimea, traveled the world and was a practitioner of La’au Lapa’au at Hawaii Apothecaries in Hawi.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 11 at Imiola Congregational Church, Church Row in Waimea for a 10 a.m. service.
He is survived by father, Yoneichi Nakamura; sisters, Betsy (Neil Apana) Nakamura and Yonette Nakamura (Jovan Labrador); grandmother, Florence Santiago; hanai brother, Troy Familar; hanai son, Kaleo Adams; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; hanai brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
