Forum features female business leaders

Women’s Fund of Hawaii is hosting a panel of eight female business leaders from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Wainaku Executive Center in Hilo.

The women have all navigated the world of business and learned what it took and still takes to move and shake it.

“A Woman’s Place Is …” features guest panelists from, the County of Hawaii, County of Honolulu, County of Kauai, County of Maui, and the continental USA.

The event takes place on American Business Women’s Day, which celebrates the 1949 founding date of the American Business Women’s Association and commemorates the accomplishments of more than 68 million working women across the country.

It is a three-hour luncheon event opened to any gender.

SBA Tops $25 million in disaster assistance loans

Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West announced that SBA has approved more than $25 million in federal disaster loans for Hawaii businesses and residents impacted by the Kilauea volcanic eruption and earthquakes that began May 3. According to Garfield, SBA has approved $6,532,800 for businesses and $18,476,600 for residents to help rebuild and recover from this disaster.

“SBA’s disaster assistance employees are committed to helping businesses and residents rebuild as quickly as possible,” said Garfield.

Businesses and residents who sustained damages are encouraged to register prior to today’s deadline with the Federal Emergency Management Agency at www.disasterassistance.gov.

Donations made for disaster relief

Paradise Helicopters said it is donating $10,000 to relief efforts for communities on the Island of Hawaii affected by recent volcanic activity. The funds will be distributed through the Hawaii Island Volcano Recovery Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF).

Also, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation announced a $300,000 grant to the Hawaii Island Volcano Recovery Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation. The funds will support the local organizations on Hawaii Island who are bringing immediate relief to the neighborhoods and families impacted by the Kilauea eruptions.
