Peter Pedro, Jr.

Peter Joseph Pedro, Jr., 66 of Hilo, died July 13, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 28, 1951, in Honolulu. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Private Services were held on Aug. 5 on Molokai.

He is survived by his father, Peter Joseph (Janet Haruko) Pedro Sr. of Molokai; mother, Rachel Lahela Kaimihana of Kaneohe; son, Richard Aloha Mendiola-Pedro of Hilo; daughter, Mary Petra “Kehau” Pedro of Hilo; brothers, Detreck Abraham of Hauula, Frederick Pedro of Alaska, Wesley Pedro of Hauula; sisters, Rachel Mainatta Makaila of Kaneohe, Sandra Beatty of Utah; four grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Koshi Tomono

Mr. Koshi Tomono, 100, of Honaunau, died July 8, 2018, at Captain Cook Care Home. Born in Olaa on Jan. 24, 1918, he was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of the Fukuoka Kenjin Kai, Honaunau Kumiai No. 3 and Hawaii Farm Bureau.

Private services were held. No koden please.

He is survived by his sons, Stanley (Renee) Tomono of Honaunau and Harvey (Emy) Tomono of Hilo; daughters, Jeanette Tomono of Captain Cook, Susan (Dean) Nakagawa of Seattle, Diane Tomono of Kealakekua; brothers, Teruo Tomono of Miyagi, Japan, Yukio (Adeline) Tomono of Los Angeles; sister, Marilyn Fujikawa of Honolulu; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Carole DePonte

Carole Laraine DePonte, 73, of Hilo, died July 30, 2018, at Hawaii Care Choices formerly known as Hospice of Hilo. Born Nov. 20, 1944, in Los Angeles, she was a supervisor for Los Angeles Times Newspaper Company, accountant for Floral Exotica, a care provider for Life Care Center of Hilo and a homemaker.

Friends may call 5-6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. memorial service/celebration of life. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed.

She is survived by daughters, Katherine (Vince Mata) Allen of Oxnard, Calif., and Victoria (Mathew Kamai) Pacatang of Hilo; son, Gerald Anderson of Kailua-Kona; sister, Jeanne Snetsinger of Monrovia, Calif.; hanai son, Michael Subert of Kaneohe; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one nephew.

Maria Bunghanoy

Maria Ybanez Bunghanoy, 94, of Hilo, formerly of Kailua-Kona, died, July 4, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Nov. 2, 1923, in Bohol, Cebu, Philippines, she worked as a housekeeper for Uncle Billy’s Kona Bay Hotel and a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona.

Friends may call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona for an 11:30 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire; burial at Kona Memorial Park (Hualalai), 75-5553 Mamalahoa Highway Holualoa.

She is survived by daughters, Luzvisminda Bunghanoy Jumila and Emeteria Bunghanoy (Timothy) Sarpamones of Kona, Josephine Bunghanoy (Faaalo) Siliga of Hilo, Cecelia Bunghanoy (Robert) Fox and Mercedes Bunghanoy (Mark) Eligado of Honolulu; sons, Theodorico Ybanez (Erlinda) Bunghanoy, Constantino Ybanez (Jovelyn) Bunghanoy and Emmanuel Ybanez (Lydia) Bunghanoy of Kona, Wilfredo Ybanez (Lina) Bunghanoy of Honolulu; sister, Lucia Ybanez Lasprilla of Philippines 29 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Harry Sigel

Harry William Sigel, 91, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 16, 2018, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Dec. 22, 1926, in Staten Island, N.Y., he was a retired marine insurance adjustor, a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a China Marine.

Private service held.

He is survived by wife, Janet Sigel of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Wendy Matthes of Nevada, Laurie Sigel of Kailua-Kona.

Emery Wai

Emery D. Wai, 63 of Pahoa, died Aug. 3, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Feb. 20, 1955, in Honolulu, he was an Army National Guard veteran.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Linda Wai of Pahoa; daughter Tiana Wai of Pahoa; son, Emery Wai, Jr. of Keaau; brothers, Clayton Wai of Dededo, Guam, Gabriel Wai of Ewa Beach; sisters, Patricia Benitez of Tulare of California, Kerima Wai-Shindo of Hilo, Caron Wai-Allen of Hilo, Jodi Wai of Honolulu; two grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Henry Shiroma

Henry Seisuke Shiroma, 93, of Hilo, died June 11, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was the proprietor of Hilo Body &Towing Services until 1973, retired auto body damage appraiser for the former Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and operated a small golfsmith business after retirement.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Alice Shiroma; sons, Melvin (Vickie) Shiroma, Milton (Diane) Shiroma, Myles (Claire) Shiroma, Henry Shiroma Jr., Craig (Jo-Ann) Shiroma; stepchildren, Bruce (Karla) Yamada, Avis (Bill) Perreira; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joy Mills-Ferren

Mrs. Joy Keahipuakauikawekiu Mills-Ferren, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 3, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu on March 21, 1970, she was a lifeguard for the County of Hawaii, an award winning hula dancer and surfer and was a member of Na Wai Iwi Ola Hula Halau. She was a participant in multiple sports racing events and a member of the Kailua-Kona Family Al-Anon.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 25 at Kahaluu Beach large pavilion; memorial service at 10 a.m.

She is survived by her mother, Linda Leilani Mills of Honolulu; brother, Keo (Debra) Mills of Mascoutah, Ill.; sister, Yvonne Patcho of Waianae, Oahu; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, aunts and uncles.
