Ann Merle Mandaquit

Ann Merle Mandaquit, 66, of Pahoa died Sept. 10, 2018, at Hawaii Care Choices. Born in Bremerton, Wash., she was the co-owner and office manager for Ultimate Roofing and member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou Church.

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Sept. 22 at Dream Hawaii Studio at 1009 Ahuna Road in Hilo (Longakit’s Residence); a celebration of her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Marcelo Mandaquit of Pahoa; sons, Jason (Coty) Mandaquit of Pahoa, Michael Mandaquit of Pahoa; brother, George (Lyn) Smith of Lynnwood, Wash.; sister, Terri (Fred) Andrew of Kenmore, Wash.; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell Kobayashi

Darrell Pono Kobayashi, 60, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 4, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born on June 12, 1958, in Hilo, he was a commercial truck driver for HD Supply and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Kona LOLO’S Golf Club.

Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. A celebration of life begins at 5 p.m. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by parents, Ronald and Shirley Kobayashi of Keaau; sister, Ronna (Ron) Pereira of Keaau; life partner, Maria Dela Cruz of Waimea; sons, Joshua Pono (Sara) Kobayashi of Waikoloa, and Aaron Keaka Kobayashi of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hideko Diama

Hideko “Yoshiko” Hane Diama, 81, of Hilo, died July 18, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Yokohama, Japan, she was a homemaker.

Private services were held.

She is survived by husband, Herbert Diama of Hilo; sisters, Atsuko Niizuma, Mitsue Sato and Toyoko Yamamoto of Yokohama, Japan; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy De Conte

Dorothy Eva De Conte, 92, of Laupahoehoe, died Aug. 27, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Aug. 29, 1925, in Papaikou, she was a member of the St. Anthony Church in Laupahoehoe.

Friends may call from 8-9:45 a.m. Sept. 24 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire and burial at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a noon (Graveside Services).

She is survived by husband, John De Conte, Jr. of Laupahoehoe; daughters, Diane De Luz of Paauilo and Nancy (Norman III) Wassman of Hilo; sister, Eleanor Fernandes of Papaikou, five grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Umeda

David Koji Umeda, 66, of Hilo, died Sept. 10, 2018, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. He was born in Hilo, and was a retired paralegal with the Child Support Enforcement Agency, Department of the Attorney General, Hilo Office, and a member of the Hilo Hoogani Mission.

Friends may call 4-5 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire, no flowers or koden (monetary donations).

He is survived by his sister, Karen Umeda of Hilo; numerous cousins and hanai nephews and nieces.

Roger Baldwin

Roger Edwin Baldwin, 88, of Hilo, died Aug. 7, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Hilo and was a Doctor of Botany and a retired biology professor with the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles, the Hilo Community Chorus, and the Big Island Recorder Society. He also square danced and folk danced with more than one group over the years.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Hilo for a memorial service. Private urn committal services later. Casual attire, no flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Baldwin of Hilo; daughter, Anne Elizabeth Baldwin of Hilo; brother, Lester N. Baldwin of Hilo; sisters, Kitty Kemner of Salem, Ore. and Joan Searles of California; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
