Katherine Himalaya

Katherine “Kathy” Ann Powers Himalaya, 59, of Laupahoehoe, died Sept. 11, 2018, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Buford, S.C., she was an employee of the Hawaii State Department of Education and member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Sept. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may again call at 8 a.m. Sept. 29 at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe for a 10 a.m. Mass. Urn burial follows in church cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Joel D. Himalaya; sons, Blaine (Jaime) Himalaya, Dalton (Kylie) Himalaya; sisters, Marie Antoinette Andrade, Peggy Powers Downing; brothers, Everett “Boyzing” J. Powers, Elwood “Woody” Damien Adrian; a granddaughter, Laveah; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynette Brown

Lynette “Lyn” Helen Brown, 78, of Hilo died Aug. 30, 2018, at her residence. Born in Paauilo, she was a retired real estate property tax appraiser for the County of Hawaii, real estate broker, co-owner of Bobo Brown’s Catering and a producer for Na Lei Brown Ohana Concerts.

Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Sept. 29, 2018, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral service at 11. Cremation to follow. Casual attire.

Survived by daughters, Lisa Ann (Gilbert) Barretto of Kapaa, Kimberly (Manny) Morante of Hilo, Glynis Rose (Legin) Moreno of Hilo; brothers, Stanley Cornelio of Los Angeles, Felix Cornelio, Jr. of Holualoa, Michael (Catherine) Cornelio of Fremont, Calif.; one sister-in-law; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Minnie Kuahiwinui

Minnie Kehaulani Kuahiwinui, 59, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 19, 2018, at her residence. Born in Pahala, she worked at Safeway and was a member of the Keaau Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Sept. 29, 2018, at the Ka’u Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Naalehu. Memorial service over ashes begins at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by son, Kapena K. Kuahiwinui of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Natasha W. Kuahiwinui of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Nora (James) Kahakua of Wahiawa, Edwina (David) Llanes of Kukui Opai, South Kona, Dorothy Hawk of Kailua-Kona, Mary Ann (Clayton) Tremaine of Mountain View; brothers, Eddie (Stella) Kuahiwinui, Jr. of Kau, Obed Kuahiwinui of Hilo, David (Pearl) Kuahiwinui of Kau, Calvin Kuahiwinui of Honolulu; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Emily Gambalan

Emily Gambalan, 81, of Kapaau died Aug. 29, 2018, at the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Paauhau, she was a retired housekeeper, formerly employed at Hawaii Palm Company, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Kohala Nursery, member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Na Kupuna of hula Halau Kawehileimamoi- kawekiu’oKohala.

Friends may call 8-9:30 a.m. Sept. 29, 2018, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Burial to follow at the Halawa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by daughters, Margaret Hoshida of Kohala, Debbie (Robert) Ellazar of Kohala; brother, Louis (Phyllis) Malasig of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Josephine Naungayan of Kohala, Priscilla (Alan) Kaaekuahiwi of Waimea, Hawaii; a sister-in-law; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces & nephews.

Tracy Watai

Tracy Honipua Watai, 53, of Kealakekua, died Sept. 18, 2018, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Aug. 2, 1965, in Kealakekua, she was a deli clerk for KTA Keauhou and a former CNA for Life Care Center of Kona.

Paula Griffin

Paula Ruthann Griffin, 69, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 20, 2018, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Oct. 1, 1948, in Long Beach, Calif., she was a retired teacher.

She is survived by daughters, Christi Lee Proue, Misti Lee (Lionel) Lindquist, all of California, Windi Lee (Jim) Robinson of Kailua-Kona; hanai sisters, Leslie Bartholomew of California, Junko Itani of Japan; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
