Bank of Hawaii Foundation donates to Habitat Relief Fund

Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island received a check from the Bank of Hawaii Foundation on Sept. 5 — a $2,500 donation for Habitat’s Puna Relief Project.

The donation was made following this year’s Hawai’i Lodging and Tourism Association’s 2018 Charity Walk. After the presentation of those funds, $17,000 of which was awarded to Habitat, the Bank of Hawaii was inspired to make a direct donation to Habitat’s upcoming work in the Puna area.

“The Bank of Hawaii Foundation is grateful to Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island for assisting individuals affected by the volcanic eruptions,” said Hobbs Lowson, Bank of Hawaii Island market manager. “We know these funds will be directed to the best use in these recovery efforts.”

“We are so grateful to the Bank of Hawaii Foundation and all the participants from this year’s Charity Walk,” Habitat executive director Patrick Hurney said of the donation. “We are excited to begin to assist those many families affected by the recent lava flow, and these donations will go a long way to helping us do that.”

Habitat began assisting in Puna by helping lead teams on HOPE Services tiny home shelters project, and is working with families in the area to talk about rebuilding, hoping to assist families in the long-term recovery efforts in the Puna area.
