Donald Kawaauhau, Jr.

Donald Keala Kawaauhau, Jr., 47, of Keaau, died Aug. 27, 2018, at home. Born in Hilo, he was a radio personality at KWXX for 19 years and member of Sudden Rush.

A celebration of life will be held Sept. 28 at the Sangha Hall, 424 Kilauea Ave. Visitation from 4-6 p.m. with service from 6-8 p.m. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by fiancée, Kalei Piena; sons, Kealoha Resureccion, Mala’e Resureccion, Cheydon Kawaauhau; parents, Donald and Stella Kawaauhau; brother, Donovan Kawika (Jaynee-Lynn Muller) Kawaauhau; sisters, Donelle K. “Nani” (Geoff Hackley) Kawaauhau, Donala Kahea “G” Kawaauhau; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rosario Savella

Rosario “Rosa” Cuestas Savella, 80, of Papaikou, died Sept. 9, 2018, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Pepeekeo; she was a volunteer under the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and she also was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 30 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 5 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again from 9-10 a.m. Oct. 1 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire; burial at Kalaoa Catholic Church Cemetery.

She is survived by daughters, Marla (Kent) Yamashita and Trisha (Ronald “Tubbs” Nahakuelua) Savella of Hilo; son, Darren (Cynthia Sasaoka) Savella of Hilo; sisters, Rosita Larsen of Sun City, Ariz., Rebecca (George) Flauta of Charlotte; Benedicta Yamamoto of Honolulu and Christine Saylors of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peter Haberly

Peter Scott Haberly, 73, of Hilo, died Sept. 6, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on May 12, 1945, in Barrington, Ill., he was a retired equine veterinarian.

Private services to be held at a later date.

He is survived by stepsons, Lloyd (Lisa) Willoz of Davie, Florida and Bob (Sharon) Haberly of Crescent City, Fla.; hanai brothers, Jim Tacker of Kealakekua and Ron Hayes of Hilo.

Harry Smith

Harry Travis “Boogie” Mendiola Smith, 32, of Keaau, died Sept. 13, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Honolulu on July 15, 1986, he served in the U.S. Army for 13 years.

Memorial services will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. held Sept. 29 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo.

Harry is survived by spouse, Robin Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Aniya Jene, Sophia Marie, Emma Rose, and Olivia Renae; parents, Harry Smith of Hilo, Carmen Mendiola of Guam; brothers, Abraxas Mendiola of Arizona, Joshua Smith of Keaau; sisters, Jolene Camacho of Guam, and Pualani Smith, Luana Smith, Evalani Smith, and Jennifer Smith, all of Keaau; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles Crouse

Charles Christopher Crouse, 55, died Aug. 16, 2018 in Kapolei, HI. He lived and in Hilo for eight years. Born in Long Beach, on July 17, 1963, Christopher worked as a singer, dancer, actor, teacher and waiter in Los Angeles, New York, Sacramento, Portland, Oregon and Utah and lived in Waikoloa and Waimea. In addition to the arts, he loved gardening, cooking, reading, and playing Scrabble at the beach.

Christopher is survived by his mother, Jeanene D. Custer, sisters, Lisa R. Featherstone and Sara A. Darby, three nieces and one grandnephew.
