HILO — Police have identified a woman who died Monday night in an Oahu hospital from a fatal gunshot wound to the head as 18-year-old Danielle Tatyana Cabral of Hilo.
Capt. Randall Medeiros of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section said the fatal gunshot took place within a home on Weston Way in Puna’s Ainaloa subdivision. He said someone inside the house called police to report the victim had shot herself in the head.
Cabral was medivaced to Oahu, where she died shortly after 11 p.m.
“Though I am unable to go into details at this point, preliminary indications are that this may have been an accidental shooting,” Medeiros said Tuesday afternoon. “Autopsy was to have been conducted today and likely was already completed, but we have not received the preliminary findings.”
