Sumiko Yamamoto

Sumiko Yamamoto, 99, of Kalaoa, Papaikou, died Sept. 11, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born Sept. 29, 1918, in Olaa, she was retired from the former Mitchell Laundry and a member Hilo Meishoin, Hilo Hooganji Mission, Hilo Daijingu and Papaikou Pension Club.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by son, Roy (Leatrice) Yamamoto of Hilo; daughter, Diane (Kenneth) Kiyotsuka of Hilo; siblings in Japan; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hanae Irie

Hanae “Harriet” Irie, 93, of Pepeekeo died Sept. 7, 2018, at a private care home. Born in Honokaa, she was retired from the former Orchids of Hawaii, Carmelia Orchids and a member of the Honomu Henjoji Mission.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

She is survived by sons, Glenn (Bonnie) Irie of Hilo, Norman (Karen) Irie of Pepeekeo, Gary Irie of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Faye Kamehaiku of Pahoa; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces &nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

John Rutz

John Henry Rutz, 78, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 8, 2018, at Nakamaru Hale. Born Sept. 30, 1939, in Sacramento, Calif., he was a glazier for Central Pacific Glass Company and a member of the Monday Night Mixed Bowling League.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

He is survived by companion, Carolyn Spencer of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lehua (Doug) Lee of San Leandro, Calif.; sisters, Emma Brown of Sacramento, Calif., Alice Schoner of Woodland, Calif.; three grandchildren, five nieces and nephews.

Linda Wallace

Linda Kehaulani Wallace, 76, of San Ramon, Calif., died Sept. 1, 2018, in San Ramon, Calif. Born in Hilo, she was a 1960 graduate of Hilo High School, employed as a food service worker for the San Ramon Valley School District, clerk for Met Life Support Division and support group office worker for Gettler Ryan.

Scattering of her ashes in Hawaii will take place at a later date.

She is survived by son, Gilbert (Karin) Wallace, Jr. of San Ramon, Calif.; daughter, Jeanne Marie (Greg) Gesino of Phoenix; brother, William Castro, Jr. of Hilo; sisters, Patricia (George) Iranon of Honolulu, Joyce (Rufus) Sonognini of Hilo, Rachel (Frank) Toddre of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
