Tax help volunteers needed
Last year in Hawaii, more than 600 Hawaii residents gave back to their communities as volunteers that provided free tax services by preparing more than 16,000 federal and state individual income tax returns through the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs.
“The IRS and its partners are looking for volunteers that are interested in taking a little time to learn about taxes and then helping others by preparing federal income tax returns for free,” said IRS spokesman David Tucker II. “Volunteers are certified to prepare simple tax returns for people whose incomes are $55,000 or less. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to volunteer. There is a role for anyone who is interested and wants to help give back to their community.”
Anyone can be a volunteer. Bilingual volunteers are particularly needed. Volunteers can help in three separate capacities: return preparer, site coordinator and greeter.

Hospice volunteer training open; estate plannings seminar this month
West Hawaii residents who are interested in supporting their neighbors and giving back to the community may be interested in becoming a Hospice of Kona “Stars of Service” volunteer.
Training class is two full days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 9 and 16 at its office, 75-5925 Walua Road, Suite 102). Lunch will be provided.

AARP classes Oct. 29
AARP Driver Safety class from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 29 at Kona Palisades Rec Center, 73-1073 Kaiminani Dr., Kailua-Kona.
Available to AARP members for $15, public/non members for $20. Please arrive early 12:30-1 p.m., bring driver license and AARP card and payment, cash or check made out to AARP.
