Police investigating reported sexual assault at UH-Hilo

KAILUA-KONA — Big Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman Thursday night at6 the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Hawaii Police officers were summoned to the campus about 8 p.m. after a female student reported to campus security that she had been accosted by an unknown man within a restroom on campus about a half-hour earlier, the Hawaii Police Department said Friday.

The victim described the suspect as being black, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing black denim pants and a backpack, according to police.

The investigation is being conducted by detectives assigned to the department’s Juvenile Aid Section. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man depicted in the photograph is asked to call Detective Richard Itliong at 961-2278 or the police nonemergency number at 935-3311.
