KAILUA-KONA — No injuries were reported after a coffee shack in Captain Cook went up in flames Sunday evening.

At 7:46 p.m., Hawaii Fire Department personnel were called to Kinue Road in South Kona. When they arrived on scene, a single-story wooden coffee shack with an attached 600-square-foot wooden-covered coffee drying area was engulfed and threatening a home about 20 feet away, according to a press release from the department.

The owner, who lives in the house next door, called the fire department. According to the release, the owner was unsure how or where the blaze started because flames were widespread before he noticed and reported it.

Fire officials say it was difficult to access the scene. Crews on the three responding engines were used to relay the water supply.

According to the release, the coffee structure was a total loss. The neighboring home received minor damage.

There were no reported injuries and the fire caused $5,000 in damage.
