Charlene O’Connor

Charlene Irene O’Connor, 74, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 6, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Portland, Oregon on Dec. 26, 1944. She was a missionary to China and worked with University of the Nations and YWAM. She was a member of Calvary Community Church.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at Calvary Community Church, 76-4295 Leilani St., in Kailua-Kona. Celebration of life will begin at 6 p.m. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Gordon O’Connor of Kailua-Kona; sons, Shane (Heidi) O’Connor of Richland, Washington and Jeremy (Nicole) O’Connor of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Shauna Zinn of Kailua-Kona; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Takashi Takemoto

Takashi Takemoto, 94, of Papaikou, Hawaii, died Aug. 25, 2018 in the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Papaikou, on Aug. 22, 1924 and was retired from the Diamond Head Papaya Company as an office manager. He was a member of the Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and United States Army Veteran.

Private services held. No flowers. No koden (monetary offerings).

He is survived by wife, Hazel Takemoto of Papaikou; son, Neil Takemoto of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Lianne (Richard) Gassner of Portland, Oregon, Lori (Ryan Kodama) Takemoto of Kapolei and Alicia (Jonah) Kaneshiro of Kaneohe; brothers, Shizuo Takemoto of Hilo and Kiyoshi (Setsuko) Takemoto of Papaikou; two grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Ginger Sasahara-Ross

Ginger “Jinjah” Lehua Sasahara-Ross, 42, of Hilo, died Sept. 29 at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Hilo and was a courtesy clerk with Sack ‘N Save.

Friends may call 3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire, no flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Jacelin Lamarco and Carol Ross, both of Hilo; son, Cain Ross of Hilo; parents, Ronald and Nona Sasahara of Hilo; brothers, Miles (Juanita) Wayne of Texas and Bradley (Terri) Wayne of Utah; sister, Rondalyn Sasahara of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Alma Nabarro of Hilo; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, hanai sisters, hanai brothers, nieces and nephews.

Sandra Baron

Sandra Lee Baron, 65, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 28, 2018, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born June 23, 1953 in Harrison, Arkansas, she was a special education teacher for Konawaena Middle School and a member of HSTA.

Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua Kona, Hawaii 96745.

She is survived by husband, Robert Marty Baron of Kailua Kona; mother, Peggy Young; sons, Grant Terry, Chris Terry all of Missouri; hanai son, Derek (Regan) Baron of Kansas; hanai daughter, Angela Ball; sister, Brenda (Wayne) Scrivner all of Missouri; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
