An Ironman athlete appeared to be fine following a collision with a vehicle while cycling near the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai Tuesday.

The athlete, 50, of Australia, was reportedly traveling southbound along Queen Kaahumanu Highway Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. when the collision occurred with a northbound Kona man, 66, who was making a left into the resort.

Hawaii Police Department Maj. Robert Wagner said police determined the vehicle to be at fault and said the cyclist was “walking around” and “appeared to be fine.”

It’s uncertain whether the driver was cited, but Wagner said police normally don’t issue citations in minor accidents like this.
