WAIMEA — The 19th annual George Heneghan Halloween Fun Run and Monster Mash Dash will begin at 7:30 a.m. this Sunday on Parker School’s lower campus.

Participants will have a spooktacular time as they walk and run dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes. This event is open to the public and consists of a 1K keiki “mash dash” at 7:30 a.m. for kids ages 11 and under, a 5K fun run/walk at 7:45 a.m. for adults and kids ages 12 and over, and a costume contest after both races.

Costume award categories will include the funniest, cutest, best monster, best sports, most creative and best due/group costume.

The entry fee is $30 for adults and $25 for kids 11 and under. Parker extends a special thanks to this year’s generous Heneghan Fun Run sponsors: Big Island Running Company, Five Mountain Fitness, Mamane Bakery, Ironman Triathlon, Keauhou Veterinary Hospital LLC and Starbucks.

The community event was established in 1999 in memory of Hawaii architect George Heneghan, an accomplished athlete, teacher and Parker cross country and track coach from 1992 to 1998. All proceeds from the run support Parker School’s athletics program.

Drivers should use caution between 7:45 and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, as runners and walkers will be on Spencer Road in Waimea.
